OwnersBox MLB Top Plays for Opening Day: March 30 (2023)

MLB is back! Our friends at OwnersBox have us covered for the entire MLB season with two exciting and unique DFS games to choose from: SuperFlex Salary Cap and Lightning Lineups.

SuperFlex Salary Cap is a salary cap based MLB DFS contest with a unique twist. There is a “superflex” slot that allows you to start a player of any position. That’s right, including pitchers. Pick nine players while staying under the $50,000 salary cap. The potential addition of a second pitcher to lineups means more strategy, more potential edges, and, you guessed it, more fun and entertainment. Whether you are familiar with their offerings from other sports or not, this is a fun, new twist that all MLB DFS enthusiasts need to try out.

Lightning lineups are another fun and unique way to play MLB DFS. You start out presented with three lineup combinations. You can choose one of the three lineups to outscore the others, or you can add additional lineups to choose from (up to 10), increasing the multiplier in the process. If you do not like any of the lineups you see, simply tap the Lightning Lineup logo near the bottom of the screen to be presented with a new set of lineups to choose from. This is a contest I fell in love with during the NFL season and will be one of my preferred ways to play MLB DFS this season.

Top OwnersBox MLB Plays for 3.30.23

Anthony Volpe (SS – NYY): $3,000

Volpe has earned an Opening Day roster spot with the big club and is expected to open the season as the team’s primary shortstop. He looked rock solid in Spring Training with a .314 batting average and should be in a good run producing spot against the Giants. It remains to be seen where they will slot him into the batting order, but with his plus contact skills, at $3,000, he is an obvious value at OwnersBox for Opening Day. Slide him into at least one of your lineups for the $25k contest at OwnersBox.

Jacob deGrom (SP – TEX): $9,800

DeGrom is one of the most expensive pitchers on the slate, so why is he a value? Well, mainly because he is not the most expensive pitcher on the slate. OwnersBox has Gerrit Cole, Corbin Burnes, Shohei Ohtani, and Spencer Strider all ahead of DeGrom in salary, which is quite surprising. We do not expect DeGrom to be the top salaried pitcher every start, but not being in the top three and over $10,000 makes him a value that will allow us to squeeze some additional upside into our lineups elsewhere. He may be on a pitch count, so the hope is that he gets enough innings to qualify for the win, but regardless of whether or not he factors into the decision, the strikeouts should be there. Tap DeGrom for Opening Day at OwnersBox if you are not opposed to a high salary at pitcher.

Oneil Cruz (SS – PIT): $5,000

Cruz struggled in spring ball but is too talented to stay in a slump for long. At a salary of just $5,000, Cruz offers one of the top upside-based values on the board. He can be as good as almost anyone when things are clicking. He hit just .233 last season, so his adjustment to the Majors has not been without inconsistency, but being able to slot someone with plus power and speed for a salary he will outgrow in short order is too enticing to ignore. He will have a tough test against intriguing talent Hunter Greene but should be able to fare well against a pitcher who had struggles of his own in spring ball, boasting an exploitable 5.40 ERA. Tap Cruz where feasible.
