Dynasty Rookie Draft Profile: Lukas Van Ness

Lukas Van Ness Dynasty Rookie Draft Outlook

Van Ness is tough to pin down as far as upside goes because while he was dominant at Iowa he was rotational and only really has a bullrush to beat OL with. The strength and leverage are outstanding for Van Ness and has played over the line so he can be a plug-and-play player at Edge or Interior for anyone that drafts him. Van Ness will most likely be a pass-rushing defender in his first season as he only played more than 40 snaps three times in 13 games and in 5 games he played under 35 snaps. Van Ness could be dominant but he’s going to have to get more than a bullrush move to beat players at the next level and he’ll have to be on the field more than he was at Iowa to be a 1st round pick.

Lukas Van Ness 2023 NFL Draft Outlook

Van Ness is a big, strong and tough edge defender who should be able to hold up immediately from a physical standpoint, and whose development trajectory is favorable. Would like to see him improve his pad level and discipline in the run game a little bit, but has the look of a starting strongside edge defender in a two-gap scheme, whether as a stand-up elephant linebacker in an odd front or with his hand in the dirt on a four-man line.

Matthew Jones

Projection: Round 1-2
