Trenton Simpson Dynasty Rookie Draft Outlook

Simpson is difficult to project because the athleticism is there, but the instincts just aren’t yet. Simpson played the most snaps in his freshman year on the line. In his sophomore year (also his highest PFF grade year), he played the most snaps at slot CB, and in his final year, he was mainly in the box. All in all, it ended up as 47% in the box, 26.6% on the line, and 26.4% in the slot, so wherever he goes, I hope they have a clear plan for him, unlike Clemson. Despite spending a decent amount of time in coverage, he doesn’t really seem to have a great feel for it, I would keep him in the box and let him cover the TE on passing downs. He’s going to show off at the combine and will most likely be a 1st round pick, but he is a high-ceiling/low-floor risk as a pick.

Trenton Simpson 2023 NFL Draft Outlook

A difficult evaluation in that his athleticism gives him much more upside as a coverage specialist than is typical, but he has some flaws to his game against both the run (lack of bulk, contact balance, tackling) and in coverage (tendency to miss with his jams, lack of man-coverage experience.) Stock will depend on to what extent teams want to gamble on tools, but from an athletic standpoint, possesses some elite traits and is well-suited to the modern game.
