Jalen Carter Dynasty Rookie Draft Outlook

Carter is this class’s ‘crown jewel’ because he blends strength, quick twitch, and overwhelming power to win in pass rush situations (top 20 win% according to PFF, DL with at least 100 snaps). Carter is so fast off the ball that he can catch OL off-balance, overwhelm the blocker, and is in the backfield so fast he can change the entire play on passing downs. Carter is strong enough to anchor a run play and make the RB change lanes, and he’s fast enough to move down the line to stretch out a run play. Carter is a high-effort player with very few weaknesses, pad level, and technique that need to be refined, but the speed, motor, and strength will make him a Top 5 pick in the draft and immediately upgrade the entire DL wherever he ends up.

Jalen Carter 2023 NFL Draft Outlook

A very disruptive penetrator because of his explosiveness, quickness, and intensity, he has all of the tools to develop into a dominant every-down player, particularly as an under tackle in an even front with an aggressive one-gap philosophy. Some teams might like to see a little bit more patience and discipline in his run fits, but looks like his physical and mental tools will likely help him earn a selection among the first five or so picks in this year’s class.
