Devy Dynasty League Sleepers (2023 Fantasy Football)

Every fantasy football player likes to be ahead of the game. In the past, you could gain an advantage simply by having an idea of what the first round of upcoming Dynasty rookie drafts looked like. With resources being more bountiful today, you’ve got to dig deeper. The Devy format is growing in popularity mainly because people enjoy trying to predict the future. The format essentially allows you to do those rookie drafts years before they enter the NFL.

If you’re in a Devy draft, you’re most likely playing with managers that are cognizant of the top college prospects like Caleb Williams and Marvin Harrison Jr. First rounds of devy drafts are often “chalky” as the consensus elite players are easily identified based on stellar early production or overwhelming recruiting rankings. Where you can win your drafts and set yourself up for long-term success is in the remaining rounds; consensus flies out the window after the first round.

2023 Devy Sleepers

Let’s look at ten players who aren’t going as high as they should in Devy drafts that will turn into sleeper studs for your roster!

Malik Nabers (WR – LSU)

Height 6’0′
Weight 195
NFL Draft Eligible 2024

Nabers blew up as a sophomore with over 1,000 receiving yards but isn’t getting the same hype as the LSU receivers that came before him. A part of that is that Justin Jefferson and Jamarr Chase are absolute freaks, but even compared to Kayshon Boutte or Terrace Marshall, Nabers is more under the public radar than he should be. Nabers gets open quickly and utilizes his impressive body control and play strength to excel after the catch. LSU returns quarterbacks Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier, both of whom had an excellent rapport with Nabers. Nabers should fill the stat sheet again in 2023 and declare early for the NFL Draft.

Matthew Golden (WR – Houston)

Height 6’0″
Weight 190
NFL Draft Eligible 2025

Houston is a school that puts up massive offensive numbers at the collegiate level. Historically it has done so with lower-rated players who don’t make it to our Dynasty rosters, but Matthew Golden is a different story. Ranked as a four-star and the 29th best receiver in the country in the 247Sports composite rankings, Golden is the fifth highest-ranked recruit in the history of the Houston program. He’s got legitimate NFL attributes and steps into the robust Cougars WR1 role vacated by incoming rookie Nathaniel Dell, who amassed 2,727 yards and 29 TD over the past two seasons.

Devin Neal (RB – Kansas)

Height 5’11”
Weight 210
NFL Draft Eligible 2024

Devin Neal is a hometown hero for the Jayhawks. Despite offers from more prestigious football schools, the Lawrence, Kan. native stayed home to play for the Jayhawks, which is a big reason their football program is trending upward. Neal is a powerful back with the prototypical NFL build and pairs that with impressive speed. The Jayhawks should be a good team again in 2023, allowing Neal to post big numbers and declare early for the NFL Draft. With his size, back to back 1,000 yard seasons, and then early-declare status, fantasy managers will love this guy.

Antonio Williams (WR – Clemson)

Height 5’11”
Weight 190
NFL Draft Eligible 2025

Once considered by some to be the modern WRU, Clemson hasn’t had a WR drafted in the top 50 picks since Tee Higgins in 2020. Antonio Williams could be the guy to buck that trend after flashing as a true freshman in 2022. His 56 receptions and 604 receiving yards led the Tigers in both categories, and he looked good while doing so. Williams is a shifty athlete with excellent route running ability and strong hands. He creates separation quickly and is dangerous with the ball in the open field. He should put up big numbers as five-star QB Cade Klubnik‘s top target for the next two seasons.

Rome Odunze (WR – Washington)

Height 6’3″
Weight 200
NFL Draft Eligible 2024

Odunze is one-half of the dynamic Washington WR duo on this list. Head Coach Kalen DeBoer and QB Michael Penix Jr. took Washington’s offense to new heights in 2022, and these two receivers were the biggest beneficiaries. Starting with the bigger-bodied Odunze, finding a flaw in his game is difficult. He’s an impressive athlete at his size, runs crisp routes, and is a menace after the catch demonstrating outstanding tackle-breaking ability. Odunze should have a massive 2023 campaign in this stacked Huskies offense.

Jalen McMillan (WR – Washington)

Height 6’1″
Weight 185
NFL Draft Eligible 2024

Insert Jalen McMillan, the other half of the Washington duo. McMillan was the higher regarded prospect, ranking as the number eleven WR nationally in the 247Sports composite rankings. McMillan is an upper-echelon athlete with blazing speed that quickly creates separation in his routes. His lateral agility is an asset as he is a crafty creator in open space. He should be one of the best receivers in the country in 2023, as Washington’s offensive unit looks as exciting as any.

Kaytron Allen (RB – Penn State)

Height 5’11”
Weight 200
NFL Draft Eligible 2025

Overshadowed by high-profile fellow freshman Nicholas Singleton, four-star Kaytron Allen was quietly one of the best freshmen in the entire country in 2022. Singleton was more productive with his huge splash plays, but Allen actually saw eleven more carries than Singleton in 2022. Allen even hit the twenty-reception mark despite splitting the backfield work. Over a thousand yards and double-digit TDs is an incredible season, especially for a true freshman, especially for the bridesmaid of the backfield. Don’t let Singleton’s presence stop you from drafting this young stud back with fantastic early production.

Bru McCoy (WR – Tennessee)

Height 6’3″
Weight 220
NFL Draft Eligible 2024

Yes, that Bru McCoy. The former five-star, number one overall athlete in the 247Sports composite rankings that had a roller coaster recruitment between Texas and USC. Fast forward a few years, McCoy is now entering his second season at Tennessee in Josh Huepel’s potent offense. In just two seasons in Knoxville, Huepel has sent receivers Velus Jones Jr., Jalin Hyatt, and Cedric Tillman to the NFL. Now it’s McCoy’s turn to be the WR1 in the Vols’ offense. With a pedigree like his and a monster season to finish his college career, the NFL should come calling.

Carson Steele (RB – UCLA)

Height 6’1″
Weight 215
NFL Draft Eligible 2024

Unless you play college fantasy football, you probably haven’t heard of Carson Steele. UCLA lost its star RB Zach Charbonnet to the NFL, so Head Coach Chip Kelly went out and found a new bell cow for the Bruins in Steele. Steele comes to UCLA via the transfer portal after rushing for over 1.500 yards in 2022 at Ball State. Steele is a big back at 215 pounds, very similar to Charbonnet, and showed excellent durability with over three hundred touches in 2022. If Steele receives a similar workload to Charbonnet, it’s wheels up for this workhorse back.

Trevor Etienne (RB – Florida)

Height 5’9″
Weight 215
NFL Draft Eligible 2025

Etienne makes this list, but it easily could’ve been his teammate Montrell Johnson. The Gators tote quite the impressive duo in the backfield and seem poised to run the ball a ton in 2023. Etienne exceeded all expectations as a freshman averaging over six yards per carry en route to over seven hundred yards rushing. He already weighs in at 215 pounds and flashed impressive athletic ability on the field for the Gators. And yes, he is Travis Etienne‘s little brother; sometimes, things like that help a player’s market value in fantasy leagues. In this case, Trevor is really good too.
