NFL Week 17 Injury Report Analysis (2022 Fantasy Football)

Jalen Hurts

Likely out Week 17. If the Eagles still need a Week 18 win to secure the NFC’s top seed, we’d expect Hurts to be available with relatively low performance impact and re-injury risk.

Tua Tagovailoa

Out Week 17. Repeat concussions within a single season most often result in multi-week absences, so we’d lean towards Tua sitting Week 18 as well.

Lamar Jackson

Expect Lamar to be available for the first round of the playoffs. 6 weeks between injury and that game would be approaching the higher end of PCL recovery timelines. Data suggests that his rushing abilities should be back to baseline by that point. With the Ravens having already clinched a playoff spot and Lamar coming up on a contract negotiation, we’d slightly lean towards him sitting Week 18 as a precaution.

Christian Watson

TBD. Lean towards playing Week 17. If active, WR data suggests a relatively mild performance hit (~10%), but an elevated re-injury risk (~20%). In most formats, that’s a player we’re starting if he gets cleared after his pre-game warm-up.

Rhamondre Stevenson

TBD. Lean towards playing Week 17. He’s been managing this injury for weeks now, and there has been no indication of a setback. Factoring that in with his practice progression suggests minimal impact on production or workload.

Tyler Lockett

TBD. Lean towards playing Week 17. WR stats do tend to see a mild hit until ~3 weeks from injury, and Lockett is only at 2. Still, if he’s active, we’d plan to start him in most season-long formats.

Deebo Samuel

Likely eligible to return Week 18, but we wouldn’t be expecting much usage if the 49ers don’t have much to play for. Most players coming off of high ankles and MCLs take 1 game to ramp up to full per-play production.

Lane Johnson

Lean towards Johnson being active when the playoffs come around. If the Eagles land the bye, he’ll have had 4 weeks to rehab. It’s obviously not a perfect solution for a problem that will eventually get surgery, but he’ll likely be able to play through it and be a solid contributor.

Kenneth Walker III

TBD. Lean towards playing Week 17. Walker has been managing this injury, and his practice progression suggests that missing Wednesday was likely a planned day of rest rather than the result of a setback. If active, we’d plan on Walker playing at near full strength.

Joey Bosa

Having had surgery on both sides is going to be a tough recovery to make mid-season. Expect Bosa to look like his old self in spurts, but likely not in the sustained way we’re used to seeing. Lean towards return Week 18 with a progressive ramp up in snap-count.
