CTAs

Sedrick Van Pran (OC – Georgia)

6’4″ – 310 lbs.

Background:

Four-star recruit who played 25 snaps in 2020 before stepping into the starting role the following year and reprising that role in 2022; finished this past season with 30 career starts, over which he allowed just one sack and one hit.

Positives:

Two-year starter with more experience than usual because of Georgia’s back-to-back trips to the conference championship game and the college football playoffs. Well-built pivot who has added 25 pounds of bulk since high school; carries his weight very well. Plays with competitiveness and urgency. Fires out low and shows nice knee bend to compete in the leverage battle; looks like one of the most flexible interior linemen in the class. Very good athlete for the position who looks comfortable climbing to the second level and engaging. Short-area quickness and good understanding of positioning allowed him to make some impressive hook blocks during the games reviewed. Works hard through the snap to stay engaged, with active hands and impressive leg drive. Has solid upper-body strength to generate torque and sling defenders. Looks alert in pass protection. Impressive lateral quickness allows him to handle gap-shooting types. Has a pretty good anchor to hold the point against opposing bull-rushers. Able to get out in space in the screen game.

Negatives:

Game-to-game and snap-to-snap consistency weren’t quite on the same level as some of the other top centers in the class. Length measurements at the Combine will be interesting. Has a slight tendency to lean or bend at the waist, causing him to fall off of some blocks; overall grip strength and ability to sustain is closer to adequate. Hands find their way outside more often than usual; flagged eight times over the past two seasons combined, and got away with some clear holds during the games reviewed. Would like to see him keep his head up and his back straight more consistently in pass protection. Doesn’t have any collegiate snaps anywhere besides center.

Summary:

A highly intriguing combination of athleticism, flexibility, grit and motor who has the flexibility and functional strength to mix things up in a phone booth and the quickness to reach second-level defenders in space, traits which could make him a starting center at the next level. Not quite as consistent as some of the other top centers in the class, but is the best athlete overall and could conceivably fit in either a gap-blocking scheme (like Georgia runs) or a zone one.

Projection: Rounds 2-3
