A lot goes in to managing a successful fantasy football team. It starts with a draft, of course, but drafting well is not nearly enough to win a league. Finding breakout players and clutch streamers on the waiver wire is important too. But each week, all that preparation and roster management boils down to one question: who do I start?

That’s where rankings come in. The fantasy industry is absolutely packed with smart, hard-working analysts who boil their expertise into weekly rankings to help you set your lineup. That’s great, but 200 sets of rankings scattered across the internet aren’t the easiest tool to use. Here at FantasyPros, we aim to help in a few different ways. We aggregate rankings into a consensus. We offer tools to translate those rankings into advice. And in this article, we tell you which analysts have the best track record of publishing accurate rankings.

This year, 163 experts qualified for the in-season weekly accuracy competition by submitting rankings for offensive positions all season. (We ignore Week 18, and experts can miss one other week and still qualify.) If you want all the details on how we evaluate rankings, you can find our full accuracy methodology here. The short version is this: we use a template to translate each expert’s rankings into a set of implied projections and measure the gap between those projections and the players’ actual production. We do this for the 17 fantasy-relevant weeks of the season, and then aggregate those weeks to get a season-long score for each expert. For overall accuracy, we combine each expert’s scores for QB, WR, RB, and TE. We also measure accuracy for DST, K, and IDP, but those results don’t impact the overall leaderboard.

A huge congratulations are in order for 2022’s most accurate expert for weekly rankings, Pat Thorman from Establish the Run. Incredibly, Pat managed a top-10 finish at all three of QB, WR, and RB – he was the only expert to score in the top 10 at three different positions. His 30th-place TE score is not too shabby either in a field of 163 – Pat was one of only five experts to finish top 30 at every position.

2022 is just one year. The truly impressive thing about Pat is his year-over-year consistency. This is Pat’s sixth top-10 finish in nine years competing, and he’s never had a low rank. Here’s a picture of a man you can trust to deliver results year in and year out:

There was no shortage of tough competition for Pat. Our #2 expert, Chris Raybon of The Action Network, has now finished 11th or better in three of his five years competing. Ben Wasley of The Fantasy First Down notched a podium finish in his third year competing, and earned the distinction of being the #1 QB expert this year. Billy Muzio of FullTime Fantasy has come out swinging as a relative newcomer, with a top-5 finish in-season to follow up his performance as the #1 draft expert in 2021, his first year in the competition. The most exalted name on this list might be Sean Koerner of The Action Network, who added yet another top-5 finish to a truly incredible resume: this is his tenth year in the competition, and in that time he’s taken first place three times, and never finished below 14th. He also has four top-5 finishes in draft accuracy in that time.

Most Accurate Experts at Each Position

While overall accuracy is important, we also like to recognize the experts that really nailed each individual position. Here are 2022’s top in-season experts for each position:

The big story here is that MasterIDP of RPO Football, a newcomer to the competition, fulfilled the promise of his name and finally dethroned The IDP Guru Ryan Sitzmann, who was the #1 IDP expert three years in a row from 2019 to 2021 (Ryan still did great this year, finishing second). I’m excited to see if MasterIDP can keep it up, and challenge the incredible consistency The IDP Guru has shown.
