Will Joe Mixon Play in Week 13? (2022 Fantasy Football)

Joe Mixon suffered a concussion in Week 11, keeping him out of Cincinnati’s Week 12 game against matchup against Tennessee. The 26-year-old has had an up-and-down season, finishing as an RB1 only three times, with his five touchdowns in Week 9 standing apart from the rest. Concussions can be tricky to recover from, and he has remained in concussion protocol in the week of practice leading up to the Bengals/Chiefs showdown on Sunday. Fantasy managers need to know if Mixon will be available or if they need to deploy their backups. Here is what we know at this point.

Joe Mixon (concussion) questionable for Week 13

Joe Mixon (concussion) was limited in practice all week long and is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs.

Fantasy Impact

Mixon still needs to clear the concussion protocol in order to play this week. However, head coach Zac Taylor sounded optimistic when discussing Mixon’s status, so perhaps he could clear the protocol on Saturday. If so, he ranks as a low-end RB1 in fantasy football.

What the Experts are Saying

Mixon has practiced on just a limited basis all week. That coupled with the above headline, makes me leary that Mixon returns this week. I’ll update his progress on Saturday. I think he could be ruled out Saturday. Check back for my update and analysis on whoever will be the lead back this week for the Bengals, Mixon, or Samaje Perine.

TBD but the data is in Mixon’s favor. The vast majority of players would be cleared by Sunday, and RBs don’t see any performance dip when they return from a concussion. Have a backup ready in case though.
