Monkey Knife Fight Advice: Week 17 (2022 Fantasy Football)

Welcome to Monkey Knife Fight. Monkey Knife Fight is one of the more intriguing entrants in the DFS arena. Instead of the traditional salary cap based contests, Monkey Knife Fight allows DFS players to put their fantasy football knowledge and predictive powers to the test.

They offer fantasy point and stat-based contests. Perhaps the most appealing of all of their offerings is the ‘More or Less’ contests. In these contests, you can choose whether a player will fall above or below totals for a preset combination of two to 10 players. Your win probability obviously goes down with the more players you add, but you receive an increased payout multiplier in exchange.

Since Monkey Knife Fight’s fantasy point and stat-based totals are dynamic, meaning the total, total type, and pairings change throughout the week, it is important to search for favorable and advantageous total pairings to exploit on a daily basis. Ideally, when choosing a total pairing, you want to feel extremely confident on one of the totals and feel strongly enough about the other total to proceed. This week we will take a look at two of the ‘More’ options that stood out the most for Week 17. Note that these are not locked in pairings, and may no longer be offered by the time you log in to make your picks.

Plays of the week

Travis Etienne (RB – JAC): 75.5 rushing yards
Travis Etienne has been excellent this season, and with James Robinson a healthy inactive who can barely earn reps for the New York Jets, one has to think that the Jaguars finally made a good personnel decision. Etienne has rushed for 1,000 yards this season and is averaging 66.7 rushing yards per game, a number that jumps to 85.5 rushing yards in the six games that he started. Etienne rushed for 71 yards against the Texans earlier this season, but that was before he was named the starter, which resulted in just 10 carries for the redshirt rookie. Houston has been decimated by the run this season, giving up an average of 140.3 rushing yards per game, making the Etienne More selection something to tap everywhere it’s available. The number is a lower 71.5 on the market, but with the Texans rushing yards against numbers and our 80.8 rushing yard projection, we are well clear of the 75.5 at MonkeyKnifeFight. Do not overthink this one. Enter More on Etienne for Week 17.
Prediction: More

Jaylen Waddle (WR – MIA): 60.5 receiving yards
Jaylen Waddle is in the midst of redefining the narrative on himself after catching 104 balls as a rookie but averaging just 9.8 yards per reception. Now averaging a league-high 18.8 yards per reception heading into Week 17, Waddle has proved that he is an elite weapon regardless of what route you ask him to run. To put this in perspective, on 104 receptions in 2021, Waddle posted 1,015 receiving yards. On 67 receptions in 2022, Waddle has 1,260 receiving yards in one fewer game played. Waddle has recorded 84 receiving yards per game this season but has played all but three games with Tua Tagovailoa under center for the whole contest. Waddle was up and down without Tua under center but was dealing with third-stringer Skylar Thompson in Week 5 and Week 6. Waddle managed 129 receiving yards in the only game in which Teddy Bridgewater saw more than 65 percent of the snaps.

Waddle posted 69 receiving yards against New England to open the season but did so with Tua under center. Bridgewater starting does hurt Waddle’s floor but does not cap his upside as much as one may think, especially with the route tree he is now involved with. Posted at 54.5 on the market, the 60.5 saps a lot of value, especially with our projection right there at 60.8 receiving yards. If Tua was playing, this would be an easy More play, but with Teddy B throwing the passes, there is a higher degree of risk and, as a result, a lower probability. With that said, this is still one of the top early slate offerings for Week 17 (the More on Isiah Pacheco and D’Onta Foreman were also considerations for inclusion here) and is absolutely one you want to click More on if available in the contest of your choice.
