Fantasy Football Injury Updates

Michael Thomas season likely over after surgery

New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen told reporters he expects WR Michael Thomas’ season to be over with season-ending toe surgery, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Fantasy Impact

Thomas has missed the majority of the season to this point with a foot injury, and now Thomas will be placed on IR after receiving surgery on his toe. The injury is expected to lead Thomas to miss the remainder of the season. Thomas’ absence puts rookie WR Chris Olave in the driver’s seat to command the Saints’ offense down the stretch, and Thomas likely does not need to be held on any rosters in re-draft leagues going forward.

Cooper Kupp (ankle) returns to practice Thursday

Cooper Kupp, who sat out Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury, returned to the practice field Thursday according to The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue.

Fantasy Impact

Kupp returned to practice today in what is seemingly limited fashion, and while the Ram’s made it clear Kupp should be good to go in Week 9 throughout the week, his return to practice reaffirms that notion. If Kupp is able to fully practice Friday he could avoid carrying an injury designation into Sunday’s matchup against Tampa Bay. Unless something changes with his injury designation, lock Kupp in as a WR1 as per usual.

Ryan Tannehill (ankle) officially a DNP Thursday

Ryan Tannehill, who missed Week 8 with an ankle injury, was downgraded to a non-participant in the Titans’ Thursday practice, putting his status for Sunday’s game in doubt.

Fantasy Impact

Tannehill going from a limited participant Wednesday to a non-participant on Thursday is slightly concerning that the veteran QB may be trending in the wrong direction. However, the team could just be operating cautiously with their QB1’s health in the balance. Tannehill’s practice status Friday should give fantasy manager’s a better picture of his potential availability for Sunday’s game against Kansas City. If Tannehill does miss Sunday’s game, rookie QB Malik Willis will once again be in line to start.

Mike Evans (ankle) limited in practice Thursday

Mike Evans (ankle) was a limited-participant in Tampa Bay’s practice on Thursday.

Fantasy Impact

Evans is still nursing an ankle injury that has landed him on the injury report all week, and his status for Sunday remains questionable. He is considered day-to-day for the time being, and it looks more likely than not that he will be able to play against the Rams Sunday. If he’s active, he will continue to be a must-start fantasy asset as he has been all year.
