Fantasy Football Injury Updates
Darren Waller (hamstring) logs limited practice Thursday
Darren Waller, who has been nursing a hamstring injury since Week 5, managed to practice in a limited fashion for the second consecutive day.
Fantasy Impact
Waller has been dealing with a lingering hamstring issue since before the Raider’s Week 6 bye week, and he has yet to play in a game since. It would be great if he could log a full practice on Friday ahead of the team’s Week 9 matchup in Jacksonville, but the reality is he will most likely carry a questionable designation into the weekend. Fantasy managers will need to monitor whether or not the star tight-end is active before putting him in lineups.
Austin Ekeler limited with abdomen injury
According to PFF’s Ari Meirov, RB Austin Ekeler was limited in practice on Thursday as he deals with an abdomen injury.
Fantasy Impact
Both Ekeler and WR Keenan Allen have emerged from the bye week nursing injuries. Ekeler, though, didn’t have any injury designations on Wednesday. His situation will need to be monitored since mid-week downgrades are never a positive sign. Though if he remains limited, he could still play this week with a questionable label.
Keenan Allen sidelined at practice again
According to PFF’s Ari Meirov, WR Keenan Allen missed his second practice in a row with a hamstring injury that he dealt with during the Chargers’ bye week.
Fantasy Impact
After missing two practices, Allen seems to be trending in the wrong direction toward missing another game this season. Allen had said he injured himself while training during the bye week, and hamstrings tend to be an injury that lingers throughout a season. If Allen misses again as well as WR Mike Williams, QB Justin Herbert will have to rely on WRs Josh Palmer and DeAndre Carter as well as RB Austin Ekeler, who received his own mid-week downgrade.
Gus Edwards (hamstring) not practicing ahead of Week 9
Gus Edwards did not practice on Thursday as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 8.
Fantasy Impact
Edwards, who was already listed as questionable for Monday Night Football, is starting off the practice week on the wrong foot with a DNP. It is possible he will be able to return for limited participation on Friday, but his status will be worth monitoring. Even if Edwards is ultimately able to play on Monday night he will be a risky bet, especially given the chance of a setback as well as a likely RBBC situation.
