Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire: Cameron Payne, Larry Nance Jr., Cam Reddish (Week 5)

It’s Thursday. You know what that means. It’s time for another look at the waiver wire to find players that you can add for short-term and long-term success.

We’ll look at players that you should consider picking up who are rostered in four different rostership tiers:

  • 50-60%
  • 30-49%
  • 15-29%
  • 0-14%

What’s more, we’ll give you a breakdown of how many games each team has for the upcoming week so that you can maximize the minutes of your streamers.

Without further delay, let’s get to it, starting with the schedule of games being played for next week.

Rostered in 50-60% of leagues:

Malik Beasley (SG/SF – UTA)

Apparently, there’s no stopping the Jazz, and Malik Beasley has been part of that surprising start. He now has six straight games scoring in double-digits, including hitting the 18-point mark twice. The minutes are consistent for Beasley, which was a big question mark in the preseason. He has also provided a big boost from downtown, as he’s hit two or more threes in all but two games this year. He’s a high-floor top-100 option, which is perfect to have on your roster. Beasley won’t be eligible for this column for much longer.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (SG/SF – DEN)

Who’s down with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope? Yeah, you know me. Caldwell-Pope is a streaky scorer, but he’s found a nice role with the Nuggets. Caldwell-Pope has made three or more three-pointers in six of his 12 games this season, and he’s consistently hitting the 30-minute mark with Denver. He’s a perfect offensive complement who can allow Nikola Jokic to work his magic and find him for an open shot in the corner. KCP is posting top-100 numbers this year. While there will be some ebbs and flows, the final numbers will be there at the end of the season.

Rostered in 30-49% of leagues:

Cameron Payne (PG/SG – PHX)

Cameron Payne is a short-term grab, as he has next to no value when Chris Paul is on the court. But when Paul is out, Payne becomes a super streaming option for fantasy managers. Payne has scored 22 or more points in three of his last four games, including 29 at home over the good(?) Warriors. Payne is also getting others involved, as he’s averaging 5.8 assists per game since Paul has been out of the lineup.

Larry Nance Jr. (PF/C – NOP)

I wrote about Larry Nance Jr. in my trade advice piece this week, where you can find more in-depth reasoning for adding him as he’s taking over – seemingly – for Jonas Valanciunas.

Rostered in 15-29% of leagues:

Terence Davis (SG/SF – SAC)

We are all about Keegan Murray here, who I also wrote about in the trade advice column, but as long as he’s out, Davis is a must-add player. In fact, he’s our add of the week, as he’s completely explosive and a true fantasy difference-maker when given the time. In the Kings’ big win over the Nets, Davis dropped 31 points in 26 minutes, including nine boards, four assists and four STOCKs. The seven three-pointers helped, but Davis was willing to let it fly last year from behind the arc when he had a nice one-month stretch.

Cam Reddish (SF/PF – NYK)

Cam Reddish truthers unite! Coach Tom Thibodeau is finally playing Reddish consistently, as he’s now played at least 33 minutes in three straight games for the Knicks. Reddish has posted 26, 19, and 10 points in those games, respectively, while averaging 3.3 STOCKs per contest. It’s hard to trust him for the long haul, but when Thibs finds his guys – especially on defense – he tends to lean on them. It just took longer than anyone expected for Reddish in the Big Apple.

Rostered in 0-14% of leagues:

Deni Avdija (SF/PF – WAS)

Don’t look now, but Deni Avdija has been in his bag of late. He was a popular fantasy option when he was a rookie because of his advanced game. It’s been a rough road, but perhaps this is the third-year breakout we’ve been waiting for. Avdija has played at least 32 minutes in four straight games and posted top-63 value over the last week. During that stretch, Avdija is averaging 14.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.1 STOCKs.

John Konchar (SG/SF – MEM)

There have been so many injuries this year already, and it’s really making it hard to set lineups in weekly – and daily – leagues and makes it increasingly tough to bet on games. The latest was the injury to Desmond Bane, who will be re-evaluated in 2-3 weeks for his toe sprain. In his absence, Konchar has streamer appeal with a ceiling of about a top-100 player. The Grizzlies are a fast-paced offense, but Konchar will have value in the 29-32 minutes he’ll get each night.
