Will D’Andre Swift Play in Week 8? (2022 Fantasy Football)

D’Andre Swift has been out of action for over a month, leaving fantasy managers high and dry in their RB1 slots. After a promising Week 1 that saw him tally 25 points in half-PPR leagues, the oft-injured 23-year-old declined in Weeks 2 and 3 before being on the shelf since. The latest reports have been positive, but the question remains: Will D’Andre Swift play in Week 8? Here’s what we know.

D’Andre Swift ‘trending the right way’ for Week 8

According to head coach Dan Campbell, D’Andre Swift is “trending the right way” for Sunday’s game against Miami.

Fantasy Impact

Swift hasn’t played since Week 3 due to a myriad of injuries, but he will be a welcome addition to fantasy teams if he suits up for Week 8. The talented running back would have his hands full with Miami’s seventh-rated rush defense, but he would still be a solid RB2 option.

What the Experts are Saying

Swift isn’t listed with an injury designation after practicing in full all week. The last time we saw him close to full health was Week 1, where he played 65% of the snaps with 18 touches and 175 total yards as the RB3 for the week. Swift is first in yards after contact per attempt, fourth in breakaway run rate, and 16th in PFF’s elusive rating (minimum 15 carries). The Dolphins are a tough draw for Swift, ranking eighth in rushing yards per game, fifth in EPA per rush, and tenth in explosive run rate. The good thing for Swift is that his ceiling and best asset isn’t his rushing ability but his pass-game role. This is where Swift can eat the Dolphins alive. Miami is 28th in DVOA against running backs in the passing game, allowing the ninth-most receptions, fourth-most receiving yards, and third-highest yards per reception. Swift is a strong RB1.

Poised for a promising Week 8 performance. Swift has now had 5 weeks to heal up from injuries that generally take RBs closer to 4. At this point, we’d expect a relatively healthy Swift with no performance or workload limitations.

D’Andre Swift should be close to returning this week. Having had a long layoff, he is a boom/bust RB2 against a Dolphins D that is 16th against fantasy backs.
