The first multi-game weekend of the 2022-23 NHL season is available ahead of Friday’s four-game DFS slate. Oddsmakers have set each of the point total lines at six goals or higher, which is a great sign for production in DFS lineups. We’re still figuring out which teams to tail and fade this early in the season but there are a lot of upgraded rosters and star players who will be utilized heavily on lower-tier teams.
My recommended players from Tuesday’s slate wound up a mixed bag. Neither Los Angeles Kings player produced a point, while Andrei Vasilevskiy (G – TB) surrendered three goals in a loss to the New York Rangers. Pivoting to the players who produced, Mark Stone (W – VGK) netted a goal for Vegas, Brayden Point (C – TB) secured an assist, and former Vezina Trophy winner Igor Shesterkin (G – NYR) played lights out allowing only one goal against Tampa Bay.
More games mean more high-caliber players to insert into DFS builds ahead of Friday’s puck drops. Let’s dial into some of the best players to add to lineups and cash out to start the weekend off right!

Recommended Plays: DraftKings
DraftKings maximum salary is set at $50,000
Dylan Larkin (C – DET): $6,400
Detroit made quite a few moves this offseason to shore up its roster but Dylan Larkin is a mainstay. The seventh-year center buried 31 goals and added 38 assists during his 2022 campaign and is lethal in the offensive zone. Montreal will roll goaltender Jake Allen (G – MTL) into the net against the Red Wings on Friday night, presenting a great opportunity for Larkin to produce points. Allen allowed a 3.3 GAA last season for the Canadiens, so plug Detroit’s top scorer in with confidence.
Cole Caufield (LW – MTL): $5,800
Montreal already played its first game on Wednesday and saw Cole Caufield score two goals en route to a 4-3 win over Toronto. The 21-year-old winger was rock solid on a bad Canadiens team last season, finishing with 23 goals and 20 assists. After crushing its draft, Montreal has surrounded Caufield with talent at other levels to support his elite talent around the crease. He’s a great value at a discounted rate in a plus-matchup Friday night.
Mikhail Sergachev (D – TB): $3,900
Adding Mikhail Sergachev into lineups isn’t always a guarantee for points, but he is a machine when it comes to generating blocked shots. The 24-year-old defenseman was held without a point in the opening loss to the Rangers, but he racked up seven blocked shots to offer a steady floor. Against Columbus, Sergachev gains appeal against a bad defense allowing quite a few shots on goal. Second-year netminder Daniil Tarasov (G – CBJ) has played well but he’s inexperienced, so Sergachev has a chance to secure a point on top of his blocked shots.
Jaroslav Halak (G – NYR): $8,000
Jaroslav Halak was brought in from Vancouver this offseason to spell Igor Shesterkin. After the reigning Vezina Trophy winner dominated Tampa Bay on Tuesday, Halak will be starting on Friday against the Winnipeg Jets. While the Rangers are slight underdogs at +115 on the moneyline, Halak proved to be a commodity with the Canucks and is not facing an upper-echelon offense. Plug Halak in at a discounted rate.

FanDuel maximum salary is set at $55,000
Nick Suzuki (C – MTL): $6,200
Montreal’s offseason moves now have Josh Anderson (RW – MTL) flanking Nick Suzuki, while Cole Caufield is sharpening his skills at left wing. During Wednesday’s upset win over the Maple Leafs, Suzuki managed two points (assists) and ripped three shots on goal. Since he’s skating on the first-line attack, there will be abundant opportunities for Suzuki to score his first goal of the 2023 season against Detroit’s newest netminder, Ville Husso (G – DET).
Teuvo Teravainen (LW – CAR): $6,500
Don’t let a quiet opening performance from Teuvo Teravainen force you elsewhere. The 10-year veteran is well assimilated into the Hurricanes’ offense in his seventh year with the team, and the departure of Vincent Trocheck (C – NYR) to New York has left even more opportunities for Teravainen to cash in on the powerplay. Teravainen scored 22 goals and over 40 assists in 2022, so he is a solid prospect to add to lineups against the outmatched San Jose Sharks on Friday night.
K’Andre Miller (D – NYR): $4,800
New York will play its third game in four days against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night. Third-year defenseman K’Andre Miller finished with over 20 minutes average time on ice (ATOI) last season and has started the season with an assist in each matchup. He’s more active in the offensive zone but is a good two-way player on the second defensive line alongside Jacob Trouba (D – NYR). Sportsbooks expect at least six goals based on the total point line, so fire Miller up as a great discounted player in DFS lineups.
Frederik Andersen (G – CAR): $8,300
When it comes to goalies in DFS, always try to play the matchup. Frederik Andersen is expensive but it’s because he’s playing the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks dropped both of their opening games against Nashville, scoring a total of three goals. Andersen finds himself in a great situation defending the crease in his lone start against Columbus on Tuesday, where he stopped 31 of 32 shots in a 4-1 win. Against a team with less talent than the Blue Jackets, Andersen will be a great foundational piece in FanDuel lineups during the late puck drop on Friday night.
