Wednesday's Starting Pitcher Strategy
Two aces are neck and neck for the top pitcher honor tonight, with one headlining the cash game recommendations and the other a GPP suggestion. But, then, a rock-solid rookie is the other suggested pitcher for today's slate.

Wednesday's Starting Pitcher Strategy
Two aces are neck and neck for the top pitcher honor tonight, with one headlining the cash game recommendations and the other a GPP suggestion. But, then, a rock-solid rookie is the other suggested pitcher for today's slate.
Cash Game Recommendations:
Shohei Ohtani (LAA) at OAK
Ohtani has had a blistering finish to the 2022 season. According to FanGraphs, in his last 10 starts spanning 61.2 innings, he's had a 1.61 ERA, 3.24 xFIP, 1.05 WHIP, 8.2 BB%, 27.8 K% and 28.9 CSW%.
Additionally, the matchup is tasty, and the betting info is outstanding. First, the Athletics are 27th in wRC+ (83) against righties. Second, per Betting Pros, the Angels are -250, and the game's total is only 7.0 runs. As a result, Ohtani is the top pitcher on this afternoon's slate.
Davis Martin (CWS) vs. MIN
Martin hasn't been as good as his ERA has suggested. Still, he's been decent. In his last five starts totaling 26.1 innings, Martin has had a 3.08 ERA, 4.18 SIERA, 1.14 WHIP, 6.5 BB% and 20.4 K%.
Martin's numbers won't blow onlookers away. Still, they're good enough for his tiny salary on DK. In addition, the betting info is positive. The White Sox are -135, and the game's total is 7.5 runs. So, Martin is a nifty SP2 in all game types at DK.
GPP Recommendation:
Corbin Burnes (MIL) vs. ARI
Unfortunately, Burnes hasn't been flawless down the stretch. Still, his 3.09 xFIP in his last 12 starts has been markedly better than his 4.12 ERA. Burnes has also had a superb 26.0 K% during the 12-game stretch.
So, Burnes has a strikeout-fueled ceiling. Additionally, his matchup and betting info are good. The Diamondbacks are tied for 18th in wRC+ (97). Finally, the Brewers are -184, and the over/under is 7.0 runs. Therefore, Burnes has a compelling case as a pivot from Ohtani in tournaments.
Top Lineup Stacks
Ken Waldichuk has struggled in his first exposure to the majors. He's had a 6.18 ERA and 5.04 xERA in his first six starts for the Athletics. The rookie southpaw has allowed at least four runs in half of his big-league starts and ceded three runs in one, too. So, the matchup is good for the Angels. Further, Oakland's bullpen is a bottom-10 group, enhancing the Angels' upside.
- Home (American Family Field)
- Value: Medium
- Risk: Medium
- Game Type: GPP
- Game Total/Moneyline: 7.0 Runs/MIL -184
Merrill Kelly was leading a charmed life most of the year. However, he's come crashing down toward the end of the year. In his last 11 starts spanning 69 innings, Kelly has had a 4.43 ERA. Yes, his 3.76 xFIP has been less damming. Still, Kelly's 1.83 HR/9 during that stretch could bite him in the butt against Milwaukee's powerful lineup. So, the Brewers are a fun tournament stack.
- Mike Trout has had a vintage season, surpassing a 170 wRC+ .300 ISO.
- Luis Rengifo is atop the order for the Angels. The switch-hitter has also destroyed lefties this year, sporting a .266 ISO and 164 wRC+ against them this season.
- Willy Adames is a nifty power source tonight. He's drilled 31 homers with a .222 ISO this year.
- Vinnie Pasquantino has raked since returning from the Injured List (IL) in early September. He's had a .444 OBP and 157 wRC+ since rejoining the Royals on September 9.
- Kolten Wong has been great against righties at home since joining the Brewers before 2021, ripping off a .352 OBP and 123 wRC+.
- Drew Waters has had a surprising power outburst since the Royals acquired him. He muscled up for seven homers and a .246 ISO in 143 plate appearances at the Triple-A level in their organization. Waters has brought his power to the bigs with him, making him a sweet punt tonight.
Wednesday's Hitter Strategy
The Angels have a few exciting hitter selections against a struggling rookie. Meanwhile, the Brewers are another source of offense tonight.
