Fantasy Football Injury Updates

Tua Tagovailoa (head) ruled out for Week 5 vs. Jets

Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel announced Monday that Tua Tagovailoa has officially been ruled out for Week 5’s matchup against the Jets as reported by Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post. (Source: Hal Habib on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Tua suffered a head/neck injury and possible brain damage in Week 4, exacerbating a likely concussion that was misdiagnosed in Week 3. Tua remains out indefinitely as he recovers from multiple head trauma within days of each other and the effects thereof. Fantasy managers should make other plans at QB for the foreseeable future, possibly the rest of the season, as the season heads into Week 5 and beyond. Veteran Teddy Bridgewater, who took over in Week 4 when Tua exited, will continue to start at quarterback for Miami, presumably as long as Tua is out. Bridgewater completed 14-of-23 pass attempts with one touchdown and one interception in relief of Tua against the Bengals. He is a serviceable quarterback but should not be expected to be a 1:1 replacement for Tua’s fantasy managers, even throwing to Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, but they could do a lot worse while without the lefty’s services.

Treylon Burks diagnosed with turf toe

Treylon Burks has been diagnosed with turf toe after being carted off in the Titans’ Week 4 win. He does not need surgery but is expected to miss some time. (Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Burks could land on IR if he is expected to miss at least four games as he rehabs from turf toe. Thankfully he will not require surgery so he will be back at some point this season. Fantasy managers should expect Robert Woods and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine to see a bump in targets with Burks out.

Jonathan Taylor has a chance to play Thursday

Fantasy Impact: The concern for fantasy managers is the original fear was that Taylor had suffered a high ankle sprain. With a quick turnaround, the practice reports will be key to determining Taylor’s status and expected workload for Week 5.

Cordarrelle Patterson (knee) being placed on injured reserve

Cordarrelle Patterson is going on IR and will miss at least four games due to his knee injury, according to multiple reports. (Source: Ari Meirov on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Patterson played on Sunday despite being questionable but received just nine carries. Subsequent reports indicate that he had a minor procedure performed this morning that necessitated the move to injured reserve. With Patterson out, rookie running back Tyler Allgeier is expected to play a larger role in the Atlanta backfield. Fellow RB Damien Williams is also on IR and is eligible to return Week 6.
