Fantasy Football Injury Updates

Ezekiel Elliott not practicing Wednesday due to knee sprain

Ezekiel Elliott is not participating in Wednesday’s practice due to a knee sprain; he is working off to the side with the rehab group.

Fantasy Impact

Head coach Mike McCarthy said the knee sprain is not the same injury as last year. Elliott has played in all seven games this season, rushing 109 times for 443 yards and four TD. Tony Pollard is already one of the strongest handcuffs in fantasy and would bump to an RB2 for Week 8’s matchup against Chicago should Elliott not play.

Russell Wilson trending toward playing in Week 8

Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett said Russell Wilson did “quite a bit” at today’s workout and is trending toward playing in the team’s Week 8 matchup against Jacksonville in London.

Fantasy Impact

The idea that Wilson might play is surprising, having been recently diagnosed with a partially torn hamstring. Other reports stated that the struggling QB stretched and worked out for four of the eight-hour flight to London. Even if he does suit up, Wilson is best avoided in fantasy formats because a partially torn hamstring isn’t going to improve an already bad situation.

Cordarrelle Patterson (knee) aiming at Week 9 return

Cordarrelle Patterson (knee) is expected to return from IR during Week 9.

Fantasy Impact

Patterson has been out of action since originally sustaining his knee injury back in Week 4. When asked if the versatile veteran will return when first eligible following Week 8, Falcons head coach Arthur Smith replied, “I imagine he’s pretty close.” Tyler Allgeier and Caleb Huntley have largely shouldered the load for the Falcons’ offensive backfield the last few games, but both are likely to see notable decreases in action upon Patterson’s reentry to the mix.

Jameis Winston still not 100%

Jameis Winston is still not at 100% as practices begin for the Saints’ Week 8 game at home against the Raiders.

Fantasy Impact

The 28-year-old QB has not played since Week 3 as he continues to deal with a back injury. With Andy Dalton playing well and dealing with injuries himself, the quarterback situation in The Big Easy remains a mystery and best avoided, if possible, in fantasy formats.
