Fantasy Football Injury Updates

DK Metcalf expected to play vs. Giants

WR DK Metcalf is expected to play in Week 8 against the New York Giants despite being carted off with a patella tendon injury last week, according to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Fantasy Impact

As Schefter mentions in his report, most suspected that Metcalf would miss multiple games. Seattle has their bye in Week 11, and some speculated that the young WR could be sidelined until after that break. If he is indeed active, the concern for fantasy managers is that he is either limited or aggravates the injury during the game. Unfortunately, the Seahawks and Giants have a late kickoff on Sunday, so fantasy managers will probably have to make the call to start or sit Metcalf prior to having an official word on his status. If you have other viable options at WR or flex, it’s probably best to lean in that direction. If you are desperate, Metcalf is a roll of the dice with obvious upside assuming he is healthy enough to handle his usual workload.

Ezekiel Elliot (knee) not expected to play vs. Bears

Ezekiel Elliot (knee) is not expected to play in Sunday’s matchup against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Impact

Elliot is dealing with a knee injury that he sustained in last week’s win over the Detroit Lions. He was listed as doubtful late into the week, and he’s now expected to be sidelined. Tony Pollard should see a huge increase in his workload as the starter in Elliot’s absence.

David Njoku (ankle) out for Week 8

David Njoku (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 8 against the Bengals.

Fantasy Impact

This is not surprising after Njoku was unable to practice at all this week. His high ankle sprain could keep him out as long as 5 weeks, but the fact that he wasn’t placed on IR may suggest he could return sooner than that. Harrison Bryant will fill in as the starting TE, but it’s hard to imagine he will have the same success Njoku has had as of late.

Nico Collins downgraded to out versus Titans

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, WR Nico Collins is out for the Houston Texans in Week 8 with a groin injury.

Fantasy Impact

Collins, a second-year WR, has been pacing the Texans through the air with 305 yards on 18 catches. WR Brandin Cooks has seen less production than usual this season and could see more this week. Though, with QB Ryan Tannehill out for the Titans and rookie QB Malik Willis receiving his first career start, this could just be a slow, run-oriented game for both teams.
