Will Alvin Kamara Play in Week 2? (2022 Fantasy Football)

Alvin Kamara opened up the year with a disappointing performance against the Falcons in Week 1, totaling just 46 yards on nine rushing attempts and three receptions. The Saints were behind for the majority of the game, which hurt some of his rushing value, but his usage in the passing game was not encouraging. However, it was reported earlier in the week that the running back was playing through a rib issue, which could have contributed to his play. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, this injury has lingered throughout the week and is now impacting his Week 2 status. We all know his upside is through the roof when healthy, but will Kamara take the field in Week 2 against the Buccaneers? Here’s what we know.

Alvin Kamara (ribs) questionable for Week 2

Alvin Kamara (ribs) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Falcons. After being limited on Wednesday, he did not practice at all on Thursday or Friday.

Fantasy Impact

There appears to be a very real chance that Kamara sits out Sunday’s game. In such a scenario, Mark Ingram (ankle) would draw the start and carry RB3 value in fantasy football. Fantasy managers should check back on Sunday morning for confirmation on Kamara’s status.

What the experts are saying

Kamara was a dud in the season opener with nine rushing attempts for 39 yards, and four targets for three receptions and seven yards against a Falcons D that was 24th against fantasy running backs last year. He is more of a RB2 this week against a Bucs D that was fourth against fantasy running backs.

-Derek Lofland

Alvin Kamara totaled just 12 touches for 42 yards in Week 1, while backfield teammate Mark Ingram had 5 for 27. Kamara’s egregiously large workload was going to come down after last season, and that’s exactly how we saw things play out.

Recall, AK41 averaged 15 touches per game when in use in tandem with a healthy Mark Ingram last season. 24.2 touches without Ingram.

If that doesn’t change, Kamara’s production won’t meet that of fantasy RB1.
