Wednesday's Starting Pitcher Strategy
This year's possible AL Cy Young Award winner is tonight's top pitcher across game types. A pair of rookie righties are also exciting options. Finally, a veteran lefty isn't a thrilling pick, but he's a rock-solid selection.
Cash Game Recommendations:
Justin Verlander (HOU) vs. ARI
Verlander has been finishing a possible award-winning campaign on a high note. According to FanGraphs, in his last seven starts spanning 39.0 innings, he's had a 1.85 ERA, 2.62 SIERA, 0.74 WHIP, 3.5 BB% and 31.3 K%.
He also has a plus matchup and tantalizing betting info. The Diamondbacks are 19th in wRC+ (96) against right-handed pitchers. Finally, according to Betting Pros, the Astros are -195, and the game's total is a puny 6.5 runs.
Jose Quintana (STL) at MIL
Quintana hasn't slowed down to close a resurgent 2022 season. In 10 starts totaling 54.2 innings for the Red Birds, he's had a 2.14 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. Sure, his 3.58 xFIP has been less impressive. Nonetheless, even Quintana's rock-solid xFIP is a lot of bang for your buck as an SP2 at DraftKings.
The veteran southpaw is a small underdog. Still, the game's total is 7.0 runs, and the Brewers are a tasty matchup. Milwaukee is 24th in wRC+ (89) against southpaws this season. Finally, they've struck out at a bloated 25.8% clip against them.
GPP Recommendations:
George Kirby (SEA) vs. TEX
Kirby has made his presence known with authority in his rookie campaign. Fortunately, he hasn't hit a rookie wall. In his last nine starts spanning 46.2 innings, he's had a 2.89 ERA, 3.08 SIERA, 1.16 WHIP, 3.7 BB% and 26.7 K%.
The rookie has a sweet matchup tonight. The Rangers are tied for 22nd in wRC+ (93) versus right-handed pitchers. They're also strikeout prone, punching out at a 24.1% clip against them. So, Kirby should carve them up tonight.
Hayden Wesneski (CHC) vs. PHI
Wesneski has only had a taste of big-league coffee. Yet, he's made the most of it. In four appearances (two starts) spanning 22.0 innings, Wesneski has twirled a 2.45 ERA, 1.70 xERA, 0.82 WHIP, 4.8 BB% and 28.6 K%.
Unfortunately, he has a tricky matchup tonight. The Phillies are 11th in wRC+ (103) against righties in 2022. In addition, they've had a 115 wRC+ since MLB's trade deadline on August 2. Still, Wesneski has pitched at a high level, making the risk of using him worth taking in tournaments.
Top Lineup Stacks
The Braves have lit up the Nationals for eight runs in consecutive games. They have another excellent opportunity to light up the scoreboard tonight. Homer-prone Josiah Gray is starting for the Nationals tonight. He's allowed 2.33 HR/9 innings in 2022. The young righty's inability to keep the ball in the park is a good reason for stacking the Braves tonight, especially since they're tied for first in ISO (.192) against right-handed pitchers this season.
- Home (Fenway Park)
- Value: Medium
- Risk: Medium
- Game Type: Both
- Game Total/Moneyline: 9.0 Runs/BOS -118
The Red Sox have raked in their hitter-friendly home park this season. Their .333 wOBA at home is tied for the fifth-highest mark in 2022. Meanwhile, Dean Kremer has been overachieving. The 26-year-old righty's 3.07 ERA has been markedly lower than his 4.25 xERA and 4.28 xFIP. So, the Red Sox can stay hot after exploding for 13 runs last night.
- Rafael Devers has terrorized righties at Fenway Park. Since last season, Devers has had a .390 OBP, .282 ISO and 160 wRC+ at home against righties.
- Michael Harris has been a well-rounded offensive force in his rookie year. In 416 plate appearances, he's had 19 homers, 20 stolen bases, a .346 OBP, .230 ISO and 143 wRC+.
- Matt Olson is an exciting power source. He's hit 29 dongs with a .220 ISO in 670 plate appearances in 2022.
- Triston Casas has been a three-true-outcomes hero in his first 70 plate appearances for the Red Sox, hitting five homers, walking 14 times and punching out 16 times.
- Joc Pederson has rediscovered his stroke this year. In 408 plate appearances, he's mashed 23 taters with a .343 OBP, .247 ISO and 139 wRC+.
- Nick Gordon has blossomed into an asset against right-handed pitchers this season. He's had a 131 wRC+ against them.
Wednesday's Hitter Strategy
The Braves and Red Sox are the best sources of hitters tonight. They both lit up the scoreboard last night and are positioned to do the same tonight.
