Tuesday's Starting Pitcher Strategy
A breakout hurler with a great matchup is the headline pitcher tonight. However, an innings-eating lefty is a fantastic GPP alternative. Meanwhile, two more lefties round out the table as intriguing options tonight.

Tuesday's Starting Pitcher Strategy
A breakout hurler with a great matchup is the headline pitcher tonight. However, an innings-eating lefty is a fantastic GPP alternative. Meanwhile, two more lefties round out the table as intriguing options tonight.
Cash Game Recommendations:
Kyle Wright (ATL) at OAK
Wright has a cupcake to feast on tonight. According to FanGraphs, the Athletics are 27th in wRC+ (83) against righties. Additionally, they've struck out at the eighth-highest rate (23.5 K%) against them. Thus, they're a great matchup for Wright continuing to chug along.
He's blossoming and dialed in lately. In Wright's previous 10 starts spanning 62.2 innings, he's had a 2.59 ERA, 3.19 xFIP, 1.10 WHIP, 5.1 BB%, 21.3 K% and 30.5 CSW%. Finally, the betting info is ideal. According to Betting Pros, the Braves are -225, and the game's total is just 7.5 runs.
Tyler Anderson (LAD) vs. SF
Anderson is producing a career-year in his age-32 campaign. In 25 appearances (23 starts) totaling 147.2 innings, he's had a 2.68 ERA, 3.18 xERA, 1.02 WHIP, 5.1 BB% and 19.5 K%. Moreover, the veteran southpaw has been best at home. In 69.2 innings at home, Anderson has a 2.20 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, 4.1 BB% and 21.3 K%.
As a result, he's an excellent SP2 in cash games, despite a challenging matchup against the Giants. The Giants got the better of Anderson when he pitched against them in San Francisco on August 2. However, Anderson held them to one unearned run on four hits, two walks and six strikeouts in six innings in Los Angeles on July 22. Anderson isn't bulletproof, but he offers gamers a lot of bang for their buck as an SP2 at DK.
GPP Recommendations:
Framber Valdez (HOU) vs. TEX
Valdez has been a model of consistency this year. The 28-year-old lefty leads MLB in quality starts, spinning 23 in 25 turns. Additionally, he's grooving down the stretch.
In his previous 10 starts totaling 69.0 innings, Valdez has had a 2.61 ERA, 3.05 xFIP, 1.12 WHIP and 25.0 K%. Sadly, the Rangers haven't been a pushover for southpaws. Texas is tied for sixth in wRC+ (118) against lefties. Nevertheless, Valdez has enjoyed success against his AL West foe.
Finally, Houston is -270, and the game's total is a non-threatening 8.0 runs. Therefore, Valdez is worth casting a dart toward in GPPs.
Eduardo Rodriguez (DET) at LAA
Rodriguez has started only 11 games this year because he missed three months due to personal issues. Additionally, he's been mediocre when starting for the Tigers this season.
Still, E-Rod is a matchup-drive GPP selection. The Angels are a steaming hot pile of garbage. They're 27th in wRC+ (82) against southpaws. Further, the Angels have struck out at a bloated 24.9% rate against them. Finally, on August 21, Rodriguez shut out the Angels for five innings, allowing four hits, three walks and striking out five. E-Rod's a highly risky pick, but taking the plunge in GPPs can pay off.
Top Lineup Stacks
The Red Birds are white-hot. Since the MLB trade deadline on August 2, the Cardinals have had MLB's highest wRC+ (145), 17 points clear of the second-highest mark. They've also excelled against righties, tying for fourth in wRC+ (112). A good righty would struggle with St. Louis, and Paolo Espino is a below-average righty. In 15 starts, Espino has had a dreadful 5.06 ERA, coughing up an eye-popping 2.08 HR/9. So, he's not the pitcher to throw a wet blanket on the Cards.
- Road (Coors Field)
- Value: Low(FD)/Medium(DK)
- Risk: Low
- Game Type: Cash
- Game Total/Moneyline: 11.0 Runs/MIL -190
The Brewers will receive the park-factor bump of playing at MLB's premier hitting venue, Coors Field. Additionally, Chad Kuhl has been god-awful this season. He's had a 5.19 ERA and 5.18 xERA in 22 starts. As a result, Milwaukee has a tantalizing implied total.
- Home (Dodger Stadium)
- Value: Low(DK)/Medium(FD)
- Risk: Low
- Game Type: GPP
- Game Total/Moneyline: Unlisted
The Giants haven't announced a starter, but Roster Resource projects Wei-Chieh Huang to get the nod. The 28-year-old righty has had an underwhelming 4.47 ERA and 5.14 xFIP in 52.1 innings in Triple-A this year. So, he's ill-equipped to tame the Dodgers. The hosts have the highest wRC+ (123) against righties this season.
- Rowdy Tellez is an outstanding power source in Colorado tonight. Since last year, he's had a .235 ISO against righties.
- Willy Adames has also put a charge into the ball. Since last season, he's had a .227 ISO against righties.
- Will Smith rakes in same-handed matchups. The right-handed-hitting catcher has had a .361 OBP, .239 ISO and 136 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers.
- Lars Nootbaar has thrived with the platoon advantage since reaching The Show last season, amassing a .342 OBP, .223 ISO, and 125 wRC+.
- Gunnar Henderson has hit the ground running. The toolsy prospect has a .321 OBP, .185 ISO, 128 wRC+, one homer and one stolen base in just 28 plate appearances for the Orioles after laying waste to the upper minors.
- Brendan Donovan is a nifty table setter. He has a .387 OBP and 125 wRC+ against righties.
Tuesday's Hitter Strategy
Using hitters from the Brewers in cash games is wise. Gamers can also select sluggers from the Beer Makers in GPPs. However, the Cardinals and Dodgers are also outstanding sources of offense tonight.
