Fantasy Football Injury Updates

Najee Harris expected to be ‘good to go’ for Week 2

X-rays on Najee Harris’ foot came back negative on Monday, and sources believe that the Steelers RB should be “good to go” for Week 2 versus the Patriots. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: This is great news for Harris and his fantasy owners, as it looks like he won’t have to miss any time with an injury that left him limping off the field in Week 1. The running back totaled just 26 yards in the season opener, but brighter days should be ahead for him. As long as the team doesn’t announce some sort of snap count or something of that nature later in the week, fire up the second-year back as an RB1 with plenty of volume for Week 2.

T.J. Watt (pec) will not require surgery, likely to return this season

T.J. Watt is still gathering opinions on his torn pectoral muscle but it is not believed to require surgery or be season-ending according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. (Source: Tom Pelissero in Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: This is obviously better news than expected for Watt and the Steelers’ defense. Watt’s return timetable is still unknown and will depend on how quickly he heals but he could be back before Halloween if all goes well. Fantasy managers with the Steelers’ DST have matchups against the Patriots (banged up Max Jones), Brown, and Jets coming up, and should still be rolling out Pittsburgh as a starting unit regardless of Watt’s status.

Elijah Mitchell (knee) expected to miss about two months

Elijah Mitchell is expected to be sidelined for about two months with a sprained MCL he suffered in Chicago Sunday. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: A sliver lining that it was not an ACL and that Mitchell will be able to return at some point this season. Fantasy managers should check if Jeff Wilson or Jordan Mason are available on their waiver wire. The 49ers have always been able to get the most out of their starting running back, so whoever takes over that role will have fantasy value. Expect Deebo Samuel to see more touches out of the backfield, increasing his upside.

Alvin Kamara was dealing with a rib issue in Week 1

Alvin Kamara was dealing with a rib issue in the Saints’ Week 1 matchup with Atlanta. Head coach Dennis Allen stated, “I think he’s going to be fine.” (Source: Katherine Terrell on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: The rib injury explains the reduction in touches from what we normally expect to see from the star running back. Kamara only logged three receptions and nine rush attempts Sunday. Despite a disappointing Week 1 performance, Kamara remains a must-start moving forward.
