Fantasy Football Injury Updates

Michael Gallup (knee) “looks excellent” while rehabbing left ACL

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said this week that Michael Gallup’s rehab is going “very smooth” and he “looks excellent” according to the Dallas Morning News’ Michael Gehlken. (Source: Michael Gehlken on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Gallup has reportedly “hit every target” so far as he continues to avoid any setbacks in his rehab of his torn left ACL. Gallup finished last season with 35 receptions for 445 yards and two touchdowns in parts of nine games. The 26-year-old has been out since tearing his ACL while scoring his second touchdown of last season on January 2 against the Cardinals. Gallup makes for a good draft & stash candidate for fantasy managers in later rounds as he should slot in as WR2 in a high-powered Cowboys’ offense once he returns. Gallup avoided being put on the PUP list so he should return by Week 3, if not sooner.

Cam Akers ‘good to go,’ says McVay

According to ESPN NFL Nation’s Sarah Barshop, Los Angeles Rams RB Cam Akers was deemed “good to go” by head coach Sean McVay. (Source: Sarah Barshop on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Akers returned late last season from a pre-season Achilles tear but dealt with soft-tissue injuries during the 2022 NFL offseason. Akers only averaged 2.6 yards per carry in the playoffs down from his 4.8 in his rookie season, but optimism is that full health will allow him to return to that range. Akers is going on average as the PPR RB18, according to FantasyPros, and in a high-powered offense, Akers has a wide range of outcomes in 2022.

Darrell Henderson set to go for regular season

According to ESPN NFL Nation’s Sarah Barshop, the Los Angeles Rams’ head coach Sean McVay called RB Darrell Henderson “good to go” at practice today after dealing with soft-tissue injuries. (Source: Sarah Barshop on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Henderson may be in for a larger role this season than people expect. He is going on average as just the PPR RB42, but McVay and the Rams have expressed interest in using the RB duo in tandem. Henderson could outperform his low ADP but will likely still operate behind RB Cam Akers, but his upside as a handcuff to the injury-prone Akers is there, finishing last year as the PPR RB26.

Greg Dulcich placed on IR

Fantasy Impact: Dulcich has been dealing with a hamstring injury he suffered during training camp. The Broncos coaching staff were doing everything they could to get him ready for Week 1, but did not want to risk any further injury to the rookie tight end. Dulcich will miss at least the first four games of the season.
