Fantasy Football Injury Updates

Justin Herbert heads for X-rays following Week 2 loss

As initially reported by Charissa Thompson on Thursday Night Football, QB Justin Herbert will get X-rays on his ribs following the Chargers’ 27-24 loss to the Chiefs. (Source: Mark Maske on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: The 24-year-old elite QB was repeatedly hit and sacked during the Thursday night Week 2 showdown against their division rival. Trainers attended to him on the field after he struggled to get up, grimacing in pain in what looked to be his left ribcage area. Even with the injury, he completed 33 of 48 passes for 334 yards, three TD, and one interception on the night. Fantasy managers will need to wait for the X-rays to be read and to keep an eye on his progress reports. Rib injuries have a wide array of outcomes and timelines, and the good news is he has extra time to heal, given they do not play again for 10 days. No fantasy move needs to be made until we have further information.

Fantasy Impact: Jones did not practice at all on Wednesday as well, leaving his status for week 2 very much in question. None of Mike Evans, Russell Gage, or Chris Godwin practiced fully Thursday. Jones still has a chance to see some practice this week and could have a huge role in week 2 depending on how the injury situations work out with his fellow WRs.

Fantasy Impact: It was reported Wednesday that Evans had his lower left leg taped and was dealing with a “minor” calf injury. He was limited in practice Wednesday and is potentially trending in the wrong direction heading into a matchup with New Orleans. The Tampa Bay offense could be in trouble this weekend if they do not get some of their pass catching options healthy. With Godwin sidelined with a hamstring injury and Evans, Russell Gage, Breshad Perriman, and Julio Jones all on the injury report, Friday is going to be a very important practice for the team.

George Kittle (groin) did not practice Thursday

Fantasy Impact: Kittle has still not been able to practice this week after missing week 1 due to this groin injury. It’s looking unlikely that he will be able to play in week 2. Tyler Kroft would once again be the primary TE option in San Fransisco with Kittle out.
