Fantasy Football Injury Updates

Van Jefferson not expected to be ready for Thursday’s season opener

Van Jefferson is not expected to play in Thursday’s season opener after missing practice Monday. He is still recovering from a knee surgery he had on August 2nd. (Source: Profootballnetwork.com)

Fantasy Impact: The Rams and Sean McVay believe that Jefferson could be ready within the first few games of the year as long as he continues to progress in his rehab. The Rams have solid depth at receiver and should be able to withstand Jefferson missing a few games. Fantasy managers will want to plan to be without Jefferson Thursday and likely consider him week-to-week after that.

Drake London ‘trending in a positive direction’ for Week 1

Drake London is “trending in a positive direction” with his knee injury, and the Falcons are optimistic that he will play in the season opener against the Saints absent a setback. (Source: profootballnetwork.com)

Fantasy Impact: London injured his knee in the Falcons’ preseason game against the Lions, and he has been rehabbing slowly with the hope of making it back for Week 1. He returned to practice on Monday and worked with the first-team offense, and he reportedly has felt good so far. London has enormous upside and, despite the preseason injury, was still ranked as the 40th wide receiver in 0.5 PPR consensus rankings from FantasyPros. Monitor the news carefully but, as of now, expect London to suit up this weekend.

Sterling Shepard ‘ready to go’ for Week 1

Fantasy Impact: Shepard returned to practice just two weeks ago, but everything has gone smoothly thus far. An Achilles tear like the one Shepard suffered nine months ago is a notoriously difficult injury from which to return, at least at a player’s previous level of performance. Nevertheless, Shepard has been an underrated receiver for years, particularly in PPR formats. With the Giants desperate for any consistency at the position, Shepard should see plenty of targets. So long as he’s healthy, he’s worth rostering and likely starting most weeks.

Darius Slayton not at practice

Fantasy Impact: The Giants were reportedly looking for a trade partner prior to the 53-man roster cutdown last week. Slayton tallied 339 yards and two touchdowns on 26 receptions in 2021. No reason was provided on why Slayton was excused from practice, but we should find out more when Brian Daboll meets with the media.
