Fantasy Football Injury Updates

Dak Prescott not being placed on injured reserve, per Jerry Jones

In a radio interview for 103.5 The FAN this morning, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said QB Dak Prescott (thumb) won’t be going on injured reserve. He thinks Prescott could play within the next four games. (Source: Jon Machota)

Fantasy Impact: The initial timeline for a potential Prescott return was 6-8 weeks, so this feels a bit optimistic. However, later reports did indicate that he suffered a “clean break” and that his surgery, which was performed on Monday afternoon less than 24 hours after the injury, was successful. Still, the updated NFL rules only require a player being placed on injured reserve to miss four games, and Jones and the Cowboys hoping to have Prescott back within that timeframe seems more like desperation than probability. This is a good sign for fantasy managers, though. Even if Prescott does have to miss more than four games, it seems like Dallas is optimistic that he’ll be able to return earlier than initially feared. While Prescott is out, Cooper Rush is expected to continue to start at QB for the Cowboys.

Rondale Moore (hamstring) likely to practice Wednesday

Rondale Moore continues to nurse a hamstring but head coach Kliff Kingsbury said he will see how much the receiver is able to do at practice on Wednesday according to azcardinals.com’s Darren Urban. (Source: Darren Urban on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Kingsbury and the Cardinals will be careful with the speedy Moore, especially this early in the season. Arizona plans on using Moore all over the field this season and need his legs healthy. Moore would face Las Vegas in Week 2 who just allowed 12 receptions for 145 yards and one touchdown to the Chargers’ receivers. Fantasy managers should monitor Moore’s progress on Wednesday but look for other options, especially if they weren’t happy with who they replaced him with in Week 1. Surprise Cardinals’ targets and yards leader Greg Dortch feasted with Moore out, catching 7-of-9 targets for 63 yards and could be a nice waiver wire pick up if Moore is out again in Week 2. Andy Isabella and A.J. Green should continue to see more targets as well if Moore remains sidelined.

T.J. Watt will miss Week 2

Fantasy Impact: Mike Tomlin did not comment on the length of Watt’s absence beyond Week 2, but it remains encouraging that he will not require surgery for his injury. With the Patriots, Browns, and Jets on the docket, fantasy managers can still be confident rolling with the Steelers’ defense after its dominating performance against Cincinnati. In IDP leagues, Watt is a stash, given his elite nature and expected return this season.

Jamal Adams will need knee surgery

Jamal Adams will require knee surgery, per head coach Pete Carroll. Carroll added, “I don’t know the extent of that yet but I know is serious.” (Source: Bob Condotta on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Adams was listed as doubtful to return with a knee injury after blitzing Russell Wilson on Monday. It appears Carroll and the team do not know how long Adams will be out, but classifying it as a serious injury should indicate he will miss significant time. The Seahawks should provide additional information after further testing is completed.
