Fantasy Football Injury Updates

Chris Godwin expected to play Week 1 vs. Cowboys but may be on snap count

Chris Godwin is expected to make his return from a torn ACL and play in Tampa Bay’s Week 1 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, but he may be “eased back” and be on a snap count, according to multiple reports. (Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: While Godwin’s ability to return in Week 1 is encouraging for fantasy managers, the report that he is going to be on a snap count makes him difficult to trust. The Buccaneers have a crowded wide receiver room this season, with Julio Jones and Russell Gage joining incumbents Godwin and Mike Evans. Evans should continue to play his usual role as Brady’s top option in the passing game, but Jones, Gage, and Godwin may all share snaps and targets, especially while Godwin is working his way back. Jones is the high-upside play in Week 1, while fantasy managers are probably better off avoiding Godwin and Gage while we see how the playing time shakes out.

Jakobi Meyers (knee) expected to play Week 1

Jakobi Meyers, who is listed as questionable with a knee injury, is expected to play in Week 1 against the Dolphins, according to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport. (Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Meyers was the team’s leading receiver last year, but they acquired DeVante Parker in the offseason in an attempt to improve their overall passing attack. Meyers and Parker are WR47 and WR53 in Week 1 ECR, respectively, and it’s difficult to project how the addition of Parker will impact Meyers and his target share early to begin the 2022 season.

Zach Ertz (calf) likely to play absent pregame setback

Zach Ertz, who is listed as questionable for the Cardinals’ Week 1 matchup against the Chiefs with a calf injury, is likely to play absent a pregame setback. (Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Ertz has been dealing with a lingering calf issue, but appears good to go here. WIth Rondale Moore missing the game and an over/under of 54 points, chances are that Ertz will see plenty of targets as the Cardinals look to match the Chiefs’ offensive prowess. Consider Ertz a borderline TE1 for this week if he does suit up, as expected.

Brian Robinson Jr. has ‘realistic chance of returning in Week 5’

Brian Robinson Jr., who was shot twice in his leg during an attempted robbery, reportedly has a realistic chance of returning in Week 5. (Source: ESPN)

Fantasy Impact: Robinson is on the Non-Football Injury list, so Week 5 is the earliest that he could return to action, and signs so far reportedly point to him doing so. He’s already off crutches and will pick up his conditioning level this week. Assuming Robinson does make it back as expected, he’ll likely be eased back into action, but he could have a significant role in the second half of the season. If able, fantasy managers should keep him rostered.
