Fantasy Football Injury Updates

Chris Godwin out of his knee brace

According to ESPN NFL Nation’s Jenna Laine, Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin has shed his knee brace, saying “he doesn’t want to wear it” and doesn’t “feel like he needs it.” (Source: Jenna Laine on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Godwin returned to practice about a month ago, and this is the next big step toward his return. It’s uncertain when he will be able to play this season, but he is almost certain to produce once he does. Godwin is going on average as the PPR WR23, and even in a suddenly busy Tampa Bay receiving core, Godwin will have enough volume in a QB Tom Brady-led offense to support his WR2 price tag — when healthy.

Zach Wilson not ruled out for Week 1

According to Pro Football Focus’ Ari Meirov, QB Zach Wilson went through a workout today and has the possibility of starting in Week 1. They will monitor his knee before making an official decision on Wednesday. (Source: Ari Meirov on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Wilson starting will likely be a bump in production for all the New York Jets receivers in the passing game, though such a quick turnaround may mean he won’t be 100%. The biggest hit likely goes to RB Michael Carter, who stands to gain value from QB Joe Flacco’s tendency to check down. Against a tough Baltimore Ravens defense in Week 1, Wilson and the Jets’ upside is limited in the season-opening game even if he starts.

Matthew Stafford (elbow) with ‘no limitations’ heading into season

Matthew Stafford reportedly has “no limitations” with his elbow heading into the season, according to Sean McVay. (Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Despite rumors of Stafford’s injury lingering throughout the season, the Rams have consistently downplayed his elbow woes, and McVay continues to do so now. This is obviously good news for the Rams and for fantasy managers, as Los Angeles boast several strong fantasy assets, Stafford included. Despite McVay’s comments, however, the real test will be how Stafford looks in a regular season game, so fantasy managers should have a good sense of the true nature of Stafford’s injury by Thursday. For those still drafting, Stafford is the 12th QB taken in FantasyPros ADP, and managers should draft him at that spot with confidence.

Zach Ertz not practicing Monday

Fantasy Impact: Ertz has been hampered by a calf injury since early August and his Week 1 status is in question. If Ertz has to miss any time, it is expected that Trey McBride or Maxx Williams would fill that role. Ertz currently sits at TE9 in ECR, according to FantasyPros.
