The Jacksonville Jaguars had another disastrous season, finishing 3-14 on the season and mercifully ending the Urban Meyer era in Jacksonville. New head coach Doug Pederson brings his version of the West Coast offense and his Super Bowl pedigree that is desperately needed in Jacksonville. Pederson made Carson Wentz and Nick Foles both viable NFL quarterbacks, so there should be excitement about what he can do with sophomore Trevor Lawrence.
Lawrence was one of the most hyped quarterback prospects since Peyton Manning, but his rookie season was brutal. He finished with only 12 passing touchdowns and a league-worst 17 interceptions. The only way to go is up for the Jaguar’s offense. Pederson did not waste any time improving the weapons surrounding Lawrence. The Jaguars signed wide receiver Christian Kirk to a massive contract. They also brought in wide receiver Zay Jones, who splashed for the Las Vegas Raiders at the end of last season. The Jaguars then tried to improve their tight-end situation by signing former Giant Evan Engram.
The influx of offensive weapons will also include two running backs. The NFL debut of Lawrence’s former collegiate teammate Travis Etienne and James Robinson is returning from a torn Achilles. Pederson will bring the most out of his players, which should infuse enthusiasm in the Jaguars’ offense. We need to throw out last season and look forward to what Pederson and Lawrence can accomplish together with an upgrade in play-making weapons. Lawrence will not arrive in the top ten quarterbacks this season, but landing in the top 12-15 is not out of the question, making him a quarterback sleeper to target this season.
Davis Mills showed a lot of promise with his strong finish last season. Mills finished as the QB11 from Weeks 13-18 and produced three multi-touchdown performances. His overall solid rookie campaign included completing 66.8% of his passes for the third-best completion percentage in NFL history among rookie quarterbacks.
The former Stanford Cardinal also had some hiccups, like his four-game benching in the middle of the season. However, he returned to display his ability to lead the Texans’ offense even with a rookie head coach and offensive coordinator. The Houston Texans promoted Lovie Smith to their head coach from his defensive coordinator position.
Additionally, the Texans promoted Pep Hamilton, their passing game coordinator last season, to their offensive coordinator. Hamilton has a history of developing young quarterbacks, including Justin Herbert and Andrew Luck. Their lack of an efficient running game and a porous defense equals the Texans being down in most games and having to throw the ball a ton. Mills has some viable passing options with the underrated wideout Brandin Cooks, surging Nico Collins and emerging tight-end Brevin Jordan. This package should result in Mills being an excellent QB2 option in SuperFlex formats and a deep option in deeper leagues.

The pursuit of Deshaun Watson died when the Cleveland Browns made Watson an offer he couldn’t refuse. However, the New Orleans Saints may already have their answer at quarterback on their roster in Jameis Winston. Winston was the starter quarterback for seven games last season before a torn ACL prematurely ended his season in Week 8. The former Seminole quarterback finished with 1,170 yards, 14 touchdowns, and three picks while rushing for 166 yards and a touchdown on the ground across seven games.
Winston posted a 102.8 passer rating during those seven games, and the Saints were sitting at 5-2. The most impressive stat for Winston last season was he threw only three interceptions which is a far cry from his 3.3% career interception rate. In addition, he limited his turnover-prone nature to produce numbers that encouraged the Saints to build prime assets around their quarterback for the 2022 season. The addition of smooth first-round wide receiver Chris Olave and free-agent signee Jarvis Landry should provide a spark to the Saints’ offense.
Another player working his way back from injury is wide receiver Michael Thomas. The former Buckeye standout has four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and established the NFL record with 149 receptions in 2019. He has been limited to only seven games the last two seasons, and his return would be a massive boost to Winston and the Saints’ offense. Additionally, returning health to all-world running back Alvin Kamara would take a lot of heat off Winston as long as Kamara can avoid legal trouble this season.
Whether you punt the quarterback position or want a deep sleeper for your QB2, selecting Winston as the QB23 is fantasy robbery.
