Cash Game Recommendations:
Zack Wheeler (PHI) vs. MIA
Wheeler has a great chance for an elite showing at home against the struggling Marlins. The stud righty has been a force to be reckoned with at home. According to FanGraphs, in 62.2 innings at home this season, Wheeler has had a 1.58 ERA, 3.09 xFIP, 0.80 WHIP, 4.3 BB% and 28.6 K%. Thankfully, he was also great at Citizens Bank Park in 2021.
Meanwhile, the Marlins have been dreadful. Over the last 30 days, they're tied for last in wRC+ (65). As a result, Wheeler is a high-floor and high-ceiling pick who's a great fit across all game types and a no-doubt cash pick.
Jose Urquidy (HOU) vs. TEX
Urquidy has also been great at home. Interestingly, his sterling marks are supported by an uptick in stuff in Houston.
In 54.2 innings at home this season, Urquidy has had a 2.30 ERA, 3.78 xFIP, 1.02 WHIP, 6.0 BB% and 24.8 K%. Further, in 143.2 innings at home in his career, Urquidy has had a 2.94 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 23.4 K%.
The matchup is excellent as well. This year, the Rangers are tied for 22nd in wRC+ (93) against righties. So, Urquidy should continue to delight the home crowd tonight. He's the best SP2 option in cash games on DK and a stellar GPP option at DK and FD.
GPP Recommendations:
Shohei Ohtani (LAA) at OAK
Ohtani is the lone bright spot for the Angels, and he's shined brightest on the bump lately. In his previous 10 starts totaling 60.2 innings, he's had a 2.37 ERA, 2.12 xFIP, 1.04 WHIP, 5.8 BB%, 36.6 K% and 32.9 CSW%.
Ohtani struck out only seven batters when he toed the slab against the A's in his last turn. Only isn't often used to describe seven strikeouts, but that's the product of Ohtani striking out at least 10 in the six previous starts. Therefore, Ohtani's insane strikeout ceiling is a GPP dream against anyone. But, of course, facing the A's is a plus. Oakland is 29th in wRC+ (79) against righties. As a result, Ohtani is an excellent GPP selection.
Shane Bieber (CLE) at DET
Bieber has been good lately, but his ERA estimators have been more encouraging. In his last 11 starts spanning 71.0 innings, Bieber's 3.55 ERA has been notably higher than his 2.87 xFIP and 3.11 ERA. Still, Bieber has struck out 26.7% of the batters during that stretch, producing a 34.5 CSW% indicating more punchout potential.
Bieber has also been a stalwart on the road. In 76.0 innings in away games, he's had a 3.32 ERA, 3.37 xFIP, 1.20 WHIP, 6.1 BB% and 25.2 K%. So Cleveland's ace shouldn't have any trouble taming the Tigers tonight. Detroit is last in wRC+ (67) against righties and tied in the basement (65 wRC+) during the previous 30 days. Thus, Bieber should carve them up with ease.
Top Lineup Stacks
The Blue Jays have explosive upside in a matchup against an overwhelmed rookie. Kyle Bradish has had a 6.55 ERA and 5.52 xERA in a dozen starts for the Orioles. He's been homer-prone, ceding 1.92 HR/9. Bradish's homer problems enhance the upside for Toronto's elite offense. The Blue Jays are fourth in wRC+ (115) against righties.
- Road (Fenway Park)
- Value: Low
- Risk: Medium
- Game Type: Both
- Game Total/Moneyline: 9.5 Runs/ATL -155
The Braves are lefty-killers, ranking tied for fifth in wRC+ (115) against them this year. In addition, Fenway Park is the second-best hitting environment. The Braves and environment are bad news for Rich Hill. The veteran lefty is hanging on as a mediocre southpaw, sporting a 4.52 ERA and 4.59 xERA. So, the Braves should get the better of him tonight.
- Road (Dodger Stadium)
- Value: High
- Risk: High
- Game Type: GPP
- Game Total/Moneyline: 8.5 Runs/MIN +175
The Twins aren't an ideal stack for gamers firing only a single bullet in GPPs. Julio Urias is a challenging matchup for them. However, the Twins have a few intriguing options for GPPs in the top-five spots of their order. Four players from the projected top five on the table above have had at least a 110 wRC+ against lefties since 2019 -- or as a rookie this year, for one player who's included as a value/punt below. It's a longshot they'll get the better of Urias, but they can do so, making them a nifty swerve for gamers who are multi-entering GPPs.
- Austin Riley is an excellent power source. He's had a .280 ISO in his career against southpaws.
- Dansby Swanson has blossomed into a headache for lefties. Since last year, he's had a .338 OBP, .206 ISO and 117 wRC+ against southpaws.
- Alejandro Kirk has a .361 OBP and 124 wRC+ against fellow righties in his career.
- Lourdes Gurriel received a breather last night. He'll presumably reprise his temporary leadoff gig tonight, where his 120 wRC+ is especially exciting at his value salary.
- Jose Miranda has made the most of his first 75 plate appearances against lefties in The Show, hammering them for a .306 ISO and 158 wRC+.
- Robbie Grossman is a no-brainer punt tonight. Since 2019, he's had a .376 OBP and 128 wRC+.
Tuesday's Hitter Strategy
The Blue Jays and Braves are the best offenses to pillage for hitter selections tonight. Fortunately, they have ample options for a variety of positions to mix them together. The Twins are also an attractive contrarian stack in GPPs for gamers entering multiple contests.
