It’s a small slate to open the work week. At DraftKings, it includes eight games, beginning at 6:40 pm ET. However, it’s even smaller at FanDuel, including six games starting at 7:07 pm ET. The following picks are tailored for the size of tonight’s slate.
Monday's Starting Pitcher Strategy
A lefty is the top pitcher on tonight's main slate. Corbin Burnes isn't listed on the table. Though, he's an acceptable option in SP-heavy builds on DK paired with the top pitcher on the table. However, the other two pitchers on the table are more cap-friendly SP2 options on DK. They're also stellar GPP picks on FD.

Cash Game Recommendations:
Carlos Rodon (SF) vs. SD
Rodon has been sharp this year. Further, he's been at his best in home starts. According to FanGraphs, in 63.0 innings at home this year, Rodon has had a 1.86 ERA, 2.65 xFIP, 1.06 WHIP and 35.7 K%.
Unfortunately, he's not a shoo-in for a win. According to Betting Pros, the Giants are only -140. Yet, the game's total of 7.0 runs is tantalizing. So, the betting info is good. Ultimately, Rodon is an elite SP selection in all game types.
Ranger Suarez (PHI) at ARI
Suarez has been remarkable on the road this year. In 67.1 innings on the road this year, Suarez has had a 2.41 ERA, 3.38 xFIP, 1.08 WHIP and 21.7 K%. Suarez has also been in great form.
In his previous seven starts spanning 41.0 innings, Suarez has had a 1.54 ERA, 3.15 xFIP, 1.02 WHIP and 23.5 K%. Suarez should stay hot tonight in a favorable matchup. The Diamondbacks are tied for 23rd in wRC+ (90) against southpaws this year.
Finally, the betting info is decent. The Phillies are -180. Though, the game's total of 9.0 runs isn't great. Nevertheless, Suarez is the best SP2 selection in cash games and a rock-solid GPP choice on FD.
GPP Recommendations:
Jose Berrios (TOR) vs. CHC
Berrios has had a forgettable 2022 campaign. However, he's had some fantasy-friendly starts. Moreover, Berrios has had somewhat encouraging marks lately.
In his last 10 starts totaling 56.1 innings, Berrios has had an underwhelming 4.47 ERA. Still, his 3.60 xFIP has been promising, and his 5.4 BB%, 24.6 K% and 30.7 CSW% have been stellar, too. So, Berrios is a volatile pitcher with enough upside to warrant GPP usage against the Cubs. Chicago has a mid-pack offense against righties with an exploitable 23.1 K%.
Top Lineup Stacks
DK projects Jerad Eickhoff to start for the Pirates tonight. That's great news for the Brewers. The veteran righty allowed 10 runs and two homers in only 4.1 innings in his lone start in the majors this season. Eickhoff has also had a 4.30 ERA and 4.26 xFIP in 92.0 innings in Triple-A this year, not exactly numbers to scare gamers away from the Beer Makers. Finally, Milwaukee has had a 108 wRC+ in home games this year. So, they can beat up Eickhoff and Pittsburgh's dreadful bullpen tonight.
- Road (Great American Ball Park)
- Value: Medium
- Risk: Low
- Game Type: Both
- Game Total/Moneyline: 9.5 Runs/STL -220
The Cardinals are a top-five offense against righties, tying for fourth in wRC+ (113) against them this season. They've also had a blistering 150 wRC+ since the MLB trade deadline on August 2. So, St. Louis would be a challenging assignment for any pitcher. However, they face one who hasn't pitched in The Show this year. Chase Anderson has had a 4.63 ERA and 5.21 xFIP in 70.0 innings in Triple-A. Moreover, Anderson has had a 6.94 ERA, 5.01 xFIP and 2.31 HR/9 in 81.2 innings in the majors since 2020. As a result, the Red Birds should feast against him tonight.
- Since last season, Paul Goldschmidt has had a .372 OBP, .225 ISO and 146 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers.
- Alec Bohm has excelled against southpaws in his career, recording a .372 OBP and 137 wRC+ against them in 317 plate appearances.
- Willy Adames is a sweet power source. Since last year, he's had a .237 ISO and 119 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers.
- Lars Nootbaar is an excellent punt based on hitting leadoff. Yet, his .357 OBP, .215 ISO and 130 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers since last year is a delectable cherry on top.
- Rowdy Tellez is another awesome power source against righties, muscling up for a .238 ISO against right-handed pitchers since last year.
- Kolten Wong has had a .344 OBP, .192 ISO and 119 wRC+ against righties since last year. That's a lot of bang for your buck at his value salary.
Monday's Hitter Strategy
The Cardinals are the best offense to attack on DK. However, they're not on FD's MLB main slate tonight. Fortunately, the Brewers are a great offense to invest in at both DFS providers. The Phillies are also an attractive offense tonight.
