Jimmy Garoppolo’s trade interest appears dead

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, there appears to be no trade interest at the moment for QB Jimmy Garoppolo outside of potential injuries. The most likely outcomes for the team appear to be to cut him or to keep him. (Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Garoppolo is clearly no longer the starter in San Francisco as the 49ers have moved on to QB Trey Lance. Garoppolo has been a solid QB2 option in fantasy when healthy the last few years, but it’s hard to determine how much of that should be attributed to his talent and how much goes to his roster’s talent and head coach Kyle Shanahan. Garoppolo could likely be a QB2/bye-week option in superflex leagues in 2022, but until his future becomes known as a certainty, it’s hard to justify rostering him on your team with confidence.

JuJu Smith-Schuster and Chiefs agree to amended contract Friday

JuJu Smith-Schuster and the Kansas City Chiefs agreed to amended contract to increase his per-game roster bonus. With the new contract, Smith-Schuster can earn an extra $510K this season in per-game bonuses. (Source: Field Yates on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: A very nice contract sweetener for Smith-Schuster, as the move increases his per-game roster bonus from $30K to $60K. Based on training camp reports out of Kansas City, Smith-Schuster has a shot to be the main wide receiver target for Patrick Mahomes. Assuming the 25-year-old can remain healthy this season, he should outperform his current WR30 ECR.

Daniel Jones feeling more comfortable in Daboll’s offense

Daniel Jones is growing more comfortable in head coach Brian Daboll’s offense. In a joint practice with the Jets, he only had one incomplete pass which came on a free play with the Jets defense lined up offsides. (Source: NorthJersey.com)

Fantasy Impact: This is a make-or-break year for Daniel Jones. The Giants declined his fifth-year option, allowing them to move on from Jones if he underperforms this season. Fantasy managers that are looking at drafting Jones should also keep in mind that Tyrod Taylor did see a significant amount of first team reps in training camp.

Mitch Trubisky to start in Sunday’s preseason finale

Mitch Trubisky will get the start in the Steelers’ preseason finale Sunday against the Lions, per head coach Mike Tomlin. (Source: Steelers on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: Trubisky still appears to be the favorite to start the year as the starting quarterback for the Steelers. He currently sits at QB30 in ECR, according to FantasyPros. If you are drafting Trubisky, you may also want to grab Kenny Pickett to protect yourself for when the Steelers eventually make the switch at QB.
