D’Andre Swift to have his workload managed?
D’Andre Swift is set to lead the way in the Lions backfield, but he could potentially have his workload managed throughout training camp and the preseason. (Source: Lionswire.usatoday.com)
Fantasy Impact: Coach Dan Campbell wants to make sure Swift has fresh legs entering the regular season. “Look, this time last year, we went and we had to pull back man. He missed – shoot man, week and a half, two weeks in camp for the most part,” Campbell said. “So, we really never got to put a load on him and get him prepared for a season. Swift had a rough go of training camp in 2021 due to a groin injury which led to a slow start. He has only played in 13 games in each of his first two seasons. Many are expecting a breakout year from Swift in year three with an ADP of 13th overall (RB8), according to FantasyPros. The potential managed workload could help Swift have fresh legs and lead to a strong start to the season. Swift will be a strong RB1/RB2 target at the turn of rounds one and two.
Tua Tagovailoa continues to impress at Dolphins camp
According to ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques, Miami Dolphins third-year QB Tua Tagovailoa has been calm and decisive as a passer while his accuracy and willingness to throw the deep ball have been highlights of training camp so far. (Source: ESPN)
Fantasy Impact: Tagovailoa may be the most polarizing QB in fantasy football as the 2022 NFL season approaches. Tagovailoa’s NFL career up to this point has been disappointing, with the main complaint against him being that he hasn’t been anything more than a game manager. In 13 games last season, Tagovailoa only threw for 2,653 passing yards and 16 TDs while also throwing 10 interceptions. His uninspiring sophomore campaign resulted in a QB26 finish in fantasy, but the Dolphin’s big offseason has led some to believe that the young QB could break out in a big way in 2022. A flurry of offseason additions that included trading for star WR Tyreek Hill and bringing in upgrades to the offensive line and RB room has much improved the Dolphins’ offense. Tagovailoa’s supporting cast of playmakers ranks among the league’s best, making the 2022 season a potential make-it-or-break-it year for the former first-round pick. Tagovailoa is currently ranked as the QB16 according to FantasyPros’ ECR.
JuJu Smith-Schuster impressive in camp
Kansas City Chiefs New WR JuJu Smith-Schuster has been impressive throughout camp and is earning the trust of the coaching staff. (Source: Jeff Fedotin)
Fantasy Impact: Smith-Schuster was a key free agent pickup for the Chiefs this off-season, and he’s making an early impact in camp. He is building trust between himself and QB Patrick Mahomes, and the value of that can’t be understated. The veteran wide receiver could be a very good value pick for fantasy if he ends up being the number-one guy for Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Alvin Kamara’s court hearing delayed at least two months
The court hearing involving Saints running back Alvin Kamara has been delayed at least two months, according to David Starns of the Las Vegas-based 8 News Now. Neither Kamara nor the other three defendants were present for the beginning of the hearing today, which necessitated its postponement. The felony battery case stems from a February incident in which Kamara was allegedly involved in a beating at a Las Vegas nightclub before the Pro Bowl. (Source: David Charns on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: This development suggests that Kamara will be available for the Saints come Week 1 and any legal discipline or football suspension would be delayed until later in the season. Kamara played in just 13 games last year but still finished as the RB8. The ongoing legal situation has dropped his 2022 ADP to RB12.
