Rob Gronkowski rules out return to football
In an interview with Mike Reiss, Rob Gronkowski completely ruled out the possibility of a return to football. He even went as far as saying he wouldn’t return if Tom Brady asked him to. (Source: Mike Reiss on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Gronkowski announced his retirement from the National Football League in late June, but there was speculation that he may come back later in the season. Now that he has shut down those rumors, Buccaneers tight ends Cameron Brate and Cade Otton will truly be in a battle for the starting role.
N’Keal Harry traded to the Bears
The New England Patriots are trading former first-round WR N’Keal Harry to the Chicago Bears for a 7th-round pick in 2024, per Mike Garofolo and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. (Source: Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport via Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: According to the report, Harry preferred a fresh start and he will now get it in Chicago. The wideout was drafted by the New England Patriots in the first round, 32nd overall in the 2019 draft. Harry showed promise coming out of Arizona State where he had over 2,000 yards and 22 touchdowns but his game never really translated to the NFL at a high level. With the current state of the Chicago Bears wide receiver room, the former first-round pick should get plenty of opportunities to earn playing time and his 6’4” frame could give Justin Fields a big athletic target. This is an upside pick for Chicago but not necessarily for fantasy purposes. At this point, fantasy managers shouldn’t consider Harry much more than an end-of-the-bench stash even in the deepest of leagues until proven otherwise. Harry finished with 12 receptions for 184 yards and no touchdowns in 12 games in 2021 for the Patriots.
Le’Veon Bell won’t play football this year
Le’Veon Bell announced that he will not be playing football this season, saying, “I know I’m not going to be playing this year because I want to focus on boxing.” (Source: TMZ)
Fantasy Impact: Bell is set to box Adrian Peterson later this month and he’s obviously taking his new endeavor seriously. He was unlikely to have an impact on fantasy football this season, and now it’s official. The former All-Pro only averaged 2.6 YPC on 39 attempts in 2021.
