We’re only about two months from the start of the NFL season, so we are officially entering the early days of fantasy draft season. That also means it’s Mock Draft SZN.
On a recent episode of the FantasyPros Football Podcast, Jake Hubman (The Fantasy Headliners) joined Joe Pisapia, Derek Brown, and Andrew Erickson for a live 12-team Superflex PPR mock draft using the FantasyPros Mock Draft Simulator.
Below are the results and a full breakdown about how the draft played out from Andrew Erickson.
I went with a QB-QB approach to this SuperFlex draft, which I don’t necessarily regret. I’d rather be over-aggressive drafting quarterbacks in the SuperFlex format than under-aggressive because two bad QBs can create a serious issue for your team to the point where you aren’t even competing.
But in hindsight analysis, I didn’t need to grab both Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray. I should have drafted Justin Jefferson in Round 1, then followed up with Jackson, Murray or Jalen Hurts as one of my elite fantasy QBs among the top-6. Because after that, there’s a tier drop-off for me.
Had I done that, I could have waited until Round 4 to take Kirk Cousins. I believe the Vikings QB is in for a career year under a new coaching staff that will implement higher passing volume.
And instead of drafting the security of Keenan Allen in Round 4, I could have waited until Round 5 to select D.J. Moore, who just got a massive upgrade at quarterback with Baker Mayfield. The Cleveland Browns traded Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers for a conditional 2024 fifth-round draft pick.
Moore finished 2021 as the WR19 last season with the stone-worst quarterback play. I’d imagine that is his absolute floor in 2022 with Mayfield at the helm.
I was eyeing Travis Etienne Jr. in Round 5 as my “hero-RB” but DBro swiped him three picks before mine. I settled on Breece Hall instead, who I envision will receive a hefty workload as the New York Jets workhorse.
Marquise Brown was my selection in Round 6 as a stacking partner with Kyler Murray. I then followed up with a few of my preferred middle-to-late round RBs like Elijah Mitchell, Kareem Hunt and Devin Singletary.
Cole Kmet and Irv Smith Jr. were my double-dipping approach at late-round tight end in Rounds 11-13. If you wait at the TE position, better to attack it was quantity with hopes that just one guy hits.
Mark Ingram was a steal in Round 14, with the potential he is the starter for the first six weeks of the season pending Alvin Kamara‘s suspension.
Browns DST was my final pick because they have a juicy schedule to open the season: Carolina (Mayfield revenge game), Jets, Steelers and Falcons.
