Andrew Erickson Recap & Analysis
Full disclosure: I was running the mock draft LIVE in the FantasyPros Discord Server, so I auto-picked my first two picks. Although I was not disappointed with the two players selected in Najee Harris and Travis Kelce.
Both offer super high floors with both vying for the most touches at their respective positions next season. They’re two picks that I would be best classified as “can’t go wrong.”
In Round 3, I got back under control and went with one of my favorite running backs in the early-middle rounds, Cam Akers.
Although based on the hate the Rams running back gets on a daily basis, I probably should have grabbed Courtland Sutton in Round 3 first, as he did not fall to me in Round 4. Curse you “Good Team” for your draft savviness.
Ultimately settled for Mike Williams in Round 4 as my WR1.
Round 5 always seems to give me the most trouble whenever my favorite WRs aren’t available. It was too early for a quarterback, so I went with JuJu Smith-Schuster with the hope I would stack him with Kelce and Patrick Mahomes in Round 6.
As I wrote in my Chiefs wide receiver preview, Smith-Schuster should be the favorite to lead the WRs in targets, especially to start the season. But I don’t love the value in Round 5 versus other Kansas City wideouts going much later.
And even though I successfully stacked Mahomes in Round 6 – the earliest range in a draft where I will consider an elite QB – seeing Trey Lance fall to Round 11 is another reminder that late-round QB is still a super effective and optimal strategy. Unsurprisingly, the team with the highest predicted grade was Root4Bama, who STOLE Dak Prescott in Round 9.
Russell Gage and Brandon Aiyuk went to me in Rounds 8 & 9, with the latter technically another auto-pick. Ideally, a player like Aiyuk isn’t one that I want starting for me in Week 1. A run-heavy 49ers offense is going to make him tricky to confidently start week-to-week.
I wanted Devin Singletary or Rhamondre Stevenson – neither of whom fell to me in Round 9. So I stockpiled running backs with my remaining picks between Rachaad White, Alexander Mattison, Mark Ingram and Tyrion Davis-Price. I was sweating out the TDP till the very end.
