Stephen Strasburg will miss the rest of 2022
Stephen Strasburg will be shut down for the remainder of the 2022 season. He is dealing with a nerve issue, similar to the thoracic outlet injury in 2021, but will not surgery. (Source: NYPost.com)
Fantasy Impact: Strasburg has only taken the mound seven times for the Nationals since the start of the 2020 season. In 2022, he pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits, two walks, and seven earned runs. No one really knows what 2023 will look like for Strasburg, but shutting him down in a lost year for the Nationals makes sense for both him and the club.
Tyler Mahle set to return to the rotation Sunday

Fantasy Impact: Mahle has not pitched since July 2nd against Atlanta where he began to deal with a strained right shoulder. The 27-year-old has made 17 starts (3-7) and has a 4.48 ERA, .239 OBA, a 9.94 K/9 ratio, and a 3.51 BB/9 ratio this season. Fantasy managers are hoping for the Mahle that showed up in his last seven outings before being injured where he posted a 2.58 ERA in 45 1/3 innings.
Jacob deGrom: simulated game delayed due to shoulder soreness
Jacob deGrom felt mild muscle soreness around his right shoulder on Sunday and had his simulated game pushed back to Thursday. (Source: MLB.com)
Fantasy Impact: There had been hope that deGrom could start during the first series out of the All-Star break, but this news will obviously push back his 2022 debut. He reportedly played catch on Monday and Tuesday without any issue so, for now, fantasy managers shouldn’t panic. But any soreness, particularly in the shoulder, is worrisome for deGrom. The Mets may opt to now give him another rehab start before activating him, but so long as he avoids any further setbacks, he should make his debut no later than early-August.
Lance McCullers Jr. to make first rehab start Friday
Lance McCullers Jr. is scheduled to work two innings in his first rehab start Friday in Double-A. (Source: Mark Berman on Twitter )
Fantasy Impact: McCullers Jr. is able to spend up to 30 days on a rehab assignment which means he should return to the Astros sometime in mid-August. The 28-year-old has not pitched in 2022, but put together a stellar 2021 stat line. In 28 starts (13-5) McCullers had a 3.16 ERA, .205 OBA, and a 10.26 K/9 ratio. Assuming he has no setbacks during his rehab assignment, he will be a solid option as we head to the fantasy playoffs.
