Mike Trout (ribs) placed on IL
Mike Trout has been placed on the 10-day IL with left ribcage inflammation. (Source: Angels PR on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Trout hasn’t played since last Tuesday and from what was said to be back spasms, it’s unclear if this issue is related to the back spasms or something different. He’ll at least have the All-Star break to rest up and hopefully can return mid-next week only missing a few actual games.
Frankie Montas to start Thursday against the Tigers
Frankie Montas is cleared and will start game two of the A’s doubleheader Thursday against the Tigers. (Source: Matt Kawahara on Twitter )
Fantasy Impact: Montas has not pitched since July 3rd in Seattle where he completed just one inning and was removed due to a shoulder injury. This could very well be on of his last starts in an A’s uniform with the trade deadline approaching. In 17 starts, the 29-year-old has a 3.26 ERA, .226 OBA, and a 9.31 K/9 ratio. The most important aspect of his start Thursday is remaining healthy as he will be important in the fantasy playoffs.
Chris Sale undergoes surgery on fractured finger
Chris Sale underwent an open reduction and internal fixation of a left fifth finger proximal phalanx fracture on his left hand on Monday. (Source: Chris Cotillo on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: This is just a fancy way to say that Sale had surgery on his fractured finger and, specifically, that he had his bone put back in place and a pin inserted. There is no timetable for his return as of yet, but Sale himself floated a 4-to-6 week absence when he spoke about the injury on Sunday. Either way, expect Sale to pitch again this season, but likely not until late-August or September.
Ian Kennedy expected to return from IL on Friday
Torey Lovullo said that he expects right-hander Ian Kennedy to return from the injured list when the season resumes on Friday. (Source: azcentral.com)
Fantasy Impact: Kennedy has been out with a blood clot in his leg, but made an appearance in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League over the weekend. He has a 3.58 ERA on the season and should see the occasional save chance going forward so long as he remains with the Diamondbacks, which is far from a sure thing.
