Players to Avoid on Real Time Fantasy Sports (2022 Fantasy Football)

Each fantasy football platform assigns players different values based on their rankings or the Average Draft Position (ADP) on their site. For the most part, player rankings are static across the industry. A few players always appear on the draft list way too early, making you think they should be drafted soon because they are at the top of the list. Some players seem to be high based on the ADP from RT Sports. These players are not avoided at all costs, only at their current ADP.

Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR – DET) (WR24)

St. Brown had a promising rookie season. He amassed 90 catches, 912 yards, and five touchdowns. The issue is he recorded 560 yards and double-digit receptions from weeks 12-17 when injuries decimated the Lions. To be fair, he showcased his abilities when he was given the opportunity, and he is an exciting young player. The problem is his ADP has risen to the level of unsustainability. He is being drafted as the number 62nd overall player and is the WR24 based on a sample size of six games.

The Lions also spent their first-round pick on exciting wide receiver, Jameson Williams, from Alabama. He was the number 12 overall selection and had all the tools to be a WR1 in the league. They added DJ Chark from Jacksonville in free agency to further complicate the opportunities for St. Brown, not to mention tight end TJ Hockenson is back and healthy.

St. Brown was able to shine when he was given the opportunity but dividing the available targets with all the other weapons in Detroit keeps the uncertainty at an all-time high. Jared Goff only threw for 3245 yards last season, so that will keep a cap on the entire Lions offense.

The players drafted after St. Brown on the current RT Sports ADP are Darnell Mooney, Allen Robinson, and Jerry Jeudy. They all have circumstances with the current situation that bodes well for significant improvements over last season-drafting St. Brown as the WR24 seems like a risky move that someone else can manage.

Chase Edmonds (RB – MIA) (RB35)

Edmonds joined the Dolphins this offseason in free agency by signing a two-year, 12-million-dollar contract. He joins a crowded backfield, including Raheem Mostert, Sony Michel, and Myles Gaskin. He’s coming off the RT Sports board at 80th overall in the seventh round. That is quite a list of names. Mostert signed a one-year, 2.1-million-dollar contract, Michael is on a one-year 1.7-million-dollar contract, and Gaskin will earn 2.6 million in the final year of his contract. If we follow the money, Edmonds is the starting running back for the Dolphins next season. But will that be worth drafting him at his ADP?

Edmonds has never rushed for more than 600 yards in a season while splitting carries with other players. It appears there is too much uncertainty about investing a seventh-round pick on him. Melvin Gordon, Dameon Pierce, Adam Thielen, and Tom Brady (featured in my Best Values on RT Sports article) are available after Edmonds comes off the board. There is much better value with greater upside at that point of the draft to risk taking a chance on Edmonds.

Alvin Kamara (RB – NO) (RB11)

Kamara enters the 2022 season with the burden of legal troubles dragging down his outlook. Kamara was arrested on Pro Bowl Weekend in Las Vegas last February for brutally beating a man at a local casino. His court case has been moved out several times and is currently scheduled for August 2022. The scary part for Kamara is it was all caught on video, so the proof is evident, and no gossip will be involved.

Investing the 18th overall pick in the second round is too risky considering all the legal baggage that goes along with being a Kamara manager. If his case keeps getting postponed, there is a chance he gets to play the entire 2022 season without suspension or conviction. The uncertainty is we have no idea what will happen if he’s convicted of the charges against him. That’s not to mention any suspension levied against him by the NFL for violating the league code of conduct. This is a situation that’s best avoided. Especially with Nick Chubb, CeeDee Lamb, and Deebo Samuel all drafted at or around his RT Sports ADP.
