Injury Roundup: Brandon Woodruff, Seiya Suzuki, Jean Segura (2022 Fantasy Baseball)

Injuries! Surprised? Probably not, at this point.

Fantasy managers continue to be hampered by these injuries as the season goes on. Here are the updates:

Boston Red Sox

Matt Barnes (RP) – Shoulder

Barnes was placed on the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation. While his 2022 season hasn’t gone the way he was expecting, He is expected out a couple of weeks.

Chicago Cubs

Seiya Suzuki (OF) – Finger

Suzuki was placed on the IL with a left ring finger sprain that is supposed to hold him out of the lineup for more than the minimum allotted time. The transaction was back-dated so his status should be monitored.

Chicago White Sox

Tim Anderson (SS) – Groin

As Anderson was placed on the IL, Manager Tony La Russa stated that he would miss at least three weeks with the groin injury. A clearer timetable will be determined once he can ramp up baseball activities.

Detroit Tigers

Robbie Grossman (OF) – Neck

After being removed from last Sunday’s game, the Tigers placed Grossman on the injured list with a neck strain.

Kansas City Royals

Zack Greinke (SP) – Elbow

Greinke was evaluated for a flexor injury after last Sunday’s start against Minnesota, and the Royals decided to make the move to place him on the IL. His timetable to return is still unclear.

Los Angeles Angels

Taylor Ward (OF) – Hamstring

Ward was removed from his last game when he experienced discomfort in his hamstring. The injury, while said to not be significant, is going to keep Ward out of the lineup for the time being. The Angels decided to place him on the IL while he recovers.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Edwin Rios (1B, 3B) – Hamstring

Rios suffered a tear in his hamstring during Friday’s game. While it isn’t expected to require surgery, he is going to be out “quite a while” according to Manager Dave Roberts.

Miami Marlins

Joey Wendle (2B, SS, 3B) – Hamstring

Wendle removed himself from the game after experiencing the same hamstring discomfort that placed him on the IL earlier this season. The Marlins will likely be more careful with him this time around. He does not have a timetable to return.

Milwaukee Brewers

Brandon Woodruff (SP) – Ankle

Woodruff left his last start against the Cardinals with right ankle discomfort that ended up placing him on the Injured List on Monday. He is slated to miss at least two starts.

Minnesota Twins

Sonny Gray (SP) – Pectoral

Gray was placed on the IL with a right pectoral strain that he suffered during his last start. For now, Gray is only set to miss two starts in the rotation but the Twins will reevaluate once they get closer to his activation date.

Philadelphia Phillies

Jean Segura (2B) – Finger

Segura suffered a fracture in his right index finger that will require surgery. The Phillies second baseman is expected to miss 10-to-12 weeks.

Seattle Mariners

Kyle Lewis (OF) – Concussion

Kyle Lewis was placed on the 7-day concussion IL on Wednesday after missing his second game in a row. He will need to pass all testing before returning.

St. Louis Cardinals

Jordan Hicks (SP, RP) – Forearm

Hicks landed on the 15-day IL with a right forearm flexor injury he suffered during his last start. The Cardinals are now considering moving him back into the bullpen once he is ready to return.

Tampa Bay Rays

Wander Franco (3B, SS) – Quad

Franco was placed on the IL on Tuesday after continuing to experience discomfort in his quad. He is hoping to make his return in two weeks once he reaches the minimum.

Toronto Blue Jays

Hyun-Jin Ryu (SP) – Forearm

Ryu was removed from his last start with left forearm tightness. This isn’t the first ailment that Ryu has experienced in his throwing elbow. He was placed on the 15-day IL and the Blue Jays are going to conduct further testing before deciding what to do with their starter. Surgery is currently on the table.
