Max Scherzer (oblique) won’t start for Mets on Sunday

Fantasy Impact: There was some chatter that Scherzer could return from his oblique injury to start on Sunday, but considering he was given a six-to-eight week timetable and it’s been roughly five weeks, it seemed a bit foolhardy. Next steps for Scherzer are TBA, but he could make another rehab start. Either way, make sure Scherzer isn’t in your lineup for this week and expect the Mets to update the next steps soon.

Salvador Perez (thumb) likely to be sidelined eight weeks

Salvador Perez underwent surgery to repair the UCL in his left thumb on Friday, and will likely miss approximately eight weeks. (Source: Alec Lewis on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Perez has a history of overcoming injuries and beating timetables, so fantasy managers shouldn’t take the eight weeks as a firm prognostication. Nevertheless, Perez is going to miss at least a substantial portion of the remainder of the season, and it’s unclear whether his performance will be affected when he returns considering the nature of the injury. Perez has nearly unrivaled power for a catcher but at this point, unless you have a free IL spot, managers should feel free to move on from him in mixed leagues.

Hunter Renfroe dealing with calf issue

Hunter Renfroe, who was out of the Brewers’ lineup on Friday, is dealing with a calf issue that occurred Wednesday, according to Craig Counsell. (Source: Todd Rosiak on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Counsell said that the team will know more Saturday about whether Renfroe’s injury could require an IL stint. The slugger has slumped a bit in June but has 13 home runs and a .490 slugging percentage, and his loss would be a big one for the Brewers. Hopefully, Saturday’s tests come back positive for Renfroe, but fantasy managers should brace themselves for bad news.

Kolten Wong (calf) to begin rehab assignment this weekend

Fantasy Impact: Wong has been on the IL with a calf injury since June 8th, and he’s had a setback along the way with his recovery that delayed his return. Assuming all goes well on his rehab assignment, he should be able to return relatively quickly at this point, so fantasy managers can expect to activate him for the weekly period after the one upcoming.
