Jacob deGrom throws live batting practice on Saturday
Jacob deGrom threw 20 pitches, or the equivalent of one inning, of live batting practice to Mets minor leaguers on Saturday. (Source: Tim Healey on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: deGrom is scheduled to throw another such session in the coming days before the Mets decide on his next steps, which could be a rehab assignment. He’s still several weeks away from returning, but all signs have been positive of late for the ace pitcher. Expect him to be back before the end of July absent any setbacks.
Bryce Harper diagnosed with fractured left thumb
Bryce Harper was diagnosed with a fractured left thumb, according to the Phillies. He will undergo further evaluation over the coming days. (Source: Alex Coffey on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: If you saw Harper’s reaction after being hit by a pitch on his thumb by a Blake Snell fastball, this is unfortunately hardly a surprise. There’s no timetable yet for Harper, but this is undoubtedly going to land him on the shelf for several weeks, if not multiple months. Given his UCL injury, there’s a risk that Harper could opt to undergo Tommy John surgery if the Phillies fall out of it in his absence. That’s all speculation for now, of course, but Harper should be placed on the IL on Sunday and miss a significant amount of time at the very least.
Jonathan India avoids fracture after HBP on hand
Jonathan India had X-rays on his hand which showed no fracture after Saturday’s game against the Giants. (Source: Bobby Nightengale on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: India was hit by a pitch on his hand, but remained in the game initially before eventually being taken out early in the lopsided defeat for the Reds. The fact that X-rays were negative is great news for fantasy managers, and India should hopefully be back in the lineup on Sunday.
Trent Grisham dealing with sore shoulder
Trent Grisham was scratched from Saturday’s lineup against the Phillies with right shoulder soreness. (Source: San Diego Padres on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Grisham was also out of the lineup Friday, so he’s obviously trying to manage the discomfort. He’s batting just .191 on the year, though he’s hit .241 in June and has been startable of late from a fantasy perspective. The Padres should provide further word after the game.
