Mookie Betts expected to return prior to All-Star break
Manager Dave Roberts stated that he is optimistic that Mookie Betts will be able to return to the lineup prior to the All-Star break. It looks like it will be as a DH at first, as Mookie is still more bothered by throwing but is able to swing without any issues. (Source: Jack Harris on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Betts was placed on the 10-day IL on June 19th with a right rib fracture. It was reported that he was beginning to resume baseball activities Wednesday which is a positive step in the right direction. Prior to landing on the IL, Betts was hitting .273 with 17 home runs, 40 RBIs, and six stolen bases. When he returns, he immediately is a locked in starter for fantasy managers.
Jeremy Pena being evaluated for concussion
The Houston Astros announced Wednesday night that SS Jeremy Pena is being evaluated for a concussion, though he did fly back to Houston with the team. We should receive an update on his status on Thursday. (Source: Chandler Rome on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Pena was removed from Wednesday’s game after colliding with Yordan Alvarez in the outfield. The 24-year-old has already dealt with some minor injuries this year, but he is productive in the lineup. He has tallied nine home runs with 27 RBI and six stolen bases while slashing .275/.327/.788. Fantasy managers should plan to be without him for at least a few days.
Yordan Alvarez being evaluated for concussion
The Houston Astros announced Wednesday night that Yordan Alvarez is being evaluated for a concussion, but he did fly back to Houston with the team. The team stated they would give an update at some point on Thursday, and we will have a better timetable then. (Source: Chandler Rome on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: The 25-year-old was removed from the game against the Mets after a vicious collision with teammate Jeremy Pena in the outfield. Alvarez is having an MVP-caliber season, currently slashing .316/.412/.658 with 23 home runs and 56 RBI. Fantasy managers who roster him should plan to be without him for at least a few days.
Max Scherzer throws 80 pitches in Wednesday rehab start
Max Scherzer stretched out to 80 pitches in his Wednesday rehab start. He pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs, one walk, with eight strikeouts. (Source: Anthony DiComo on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Scherzer is clearly closer to a return to the Mets after being stretched out to 80 pitches. Mad Max has been on the IL since May 21st with a left oblique strain. Look for the Mets to provide an update on his next steps, whether another rehab start is needed or if he will rejoin their rotation. As soon as he is activated, he immediately becomes a must-start.
