Oneil Cruz being called up Monday

Fantasy Impact: The 23-year-old prospect slashed .233/.237/.424 through 54 games in the minors this season. Fantasy managers anticipated an earlier arrival to the big leagues than this, given the poor play of Pittsburgh and Cruz’s success in two games last season in MLB. He is expected to take over as the everyday shortstop, though he did see some time in left field while in Triple-A. Fantasy managers who held on patiently hope he adjusts and demonstrates his dynamic skills quickly. He is probably not available in dynasty leagues, but those in redraft looking for possible double-digit homers and steals the rest of the way can take a flyer in their pickups Sunday evening.

Fantasy Impact: The Red Sox #5 prospect is set to finally make his debut. Its unknown how much playing time he will get and how he will fit into the lineup, but the Red Sox seem confident that he can contribute to the big league club. He hasn’t been great in AAA this year, hitting .180 with a .311 wOBA, so he might not be an immediate pick-up in redraft leagues.

Josh Lowe called up from Triple-A

Fantasy Impact: Lowe struggled in the majors before being sent down, but he’s done well in Triple-A, slashing .299/.382/.540 with six home runs and six steals in 157 plate appearances. It’s unclear if he’ll have an everyday role with the Rays and given how much he struggled early in the season, there’s no need to rush to start him if he’s on your roster. But he should be added in all formats at the very least.

Dominic Smith recalled from Triple-A

Fantasy Impact: Smith didn’t play much and struggled when he did in the majors this season, but he has slashed .266/.347/.438 thus far in Triple-A in 15 games. His stay with the Mets may be short, and his upside isn’t particularly high, so there’s no need to add him in anything other than deep NL-only formats.
