1.04 Treylon Burks (WR – TEN)
Treylon Burks finished first in his class in yards per route run (3.57) while also ranking No. 1 in yards per route run when lined up outside (6.08) among all receivers. It’s an encouraging sign that a size-speed specimen delivered when aligned on the perimeter, as he spent 77% of his career in the slot.
The rookie’s 8.5 yards after the catch rank 14th among 169 qualifying wide receivers (92nd percentile) over the past two seasons. His elite college production and top-notch 32% dominator rating speak for themselves.
And the best part is, he should produce from Day 1 after being drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the 1st round of the NFL Draft.
There’s hardly any competition for targets outside of Robert Woods), who is coming off a torn ACL. And with a similar YAC-ability to A.J. Brown, Burks should be able to step on the field on day one and offer immediate fantasy football appeal as a top-30 fantasy option.
2.04 David Bell (WR – CLE)
David Bell might be my favorite WR to draft from Day 3 of the real NFL draft. He has an awesome landing spot with the Cleveland Browns and quarterback Deshaun Watson.
The Browns understand his limitations as an athlete, but his strengths as an underneath wide receiver can help him produce after the catch.
Bell finished third in the FBS in receiving yards on the outside (1,097), second in total forced missed tackles (25), and 10th in PFF receiving grade (86.9) among his draft class.
He’s a perfect fit alongside prototypical No. 1 WR Amari Cooper and the speedy duo of Donovan Peoples-Jones/Anthony Schwartz.
3.04 Desmond Ridder (QB – ATL)
Desmond Ridder falls in the same third-round bucket as Malik Willis and Matt Corral from this class. Marcus Mariota might have been signed as the team’s bridge quarterback option, but that doesn’t wipe Ridder off the map to possibly win the job out of camp. The draft capital doesn’t ensure he’ll be given that shot, but Arthur Smith knows Mariota quite well from their time in Tennessee. If Smith thinks Ridder can bring something more to the table or operate similarly to Mariota, he could win the starting call. Smith’s love for play-action passing will help Ridder. Last year Matt Ryan ranked 11th in play-action dropback rate (minimum 200 dropbacks, per PFF). In 2021, Ridder was tied for 17th in play-action passing touchdowns out of 121 qualifying quarterbacks (minimum 200 dropbacks, per PFF).
4.04 Romeo Doubs (WR – GB)
Romeo Doubs is the dollar store investment version of Christian Watson. The Packers selected Doubs in the fourth round to help fill out their questionable receiving depth chart. Doubs checks all the boxes for a player to go hunting for to fill out the bottom of your dynasty roster. He finished his career at Nevada above the 60th percentile in college dominator, yards per reception, target share, and breakout age. Add in he’s tied to Aaron Rodgers for at least the next four seasons, and it’s not difficult to imagine this blindly tossed dart landing on a bullseye.
5.04 Bo Melton (WR – SEA)
The Seattle Seahawks have an unhealthy obsession with speedy receivers with questionable analytical profiles. They went down the D’Wayne Eskridge rabbit hole last year only to land on Bo Melton this year. The investment in Melton is slight as it only cost the team a seventh-round pick. Melton’s a late flier only. He’s currently blocked from the starting lineup by Tyler Lockett, D.K. Metcalf and either D’Wayne Eskridge or Freddie Swain. If Eskridge flames out again this year, it’s not impossible that Melton could get some run late in the season. His 4.34 speed, 93rd percentile college target share, and 81st percentile college dominator make him a shiny dart to toss at the board.
