1.04 Treylon Burks (WR – TEN)
Treylon Burks finished first in his class in yards per route run (3.57) while also ranking No. 1 in yards per route run when lined up outside (6.08) among all receivers. It’s an encouraging sign that a size-speed specimen delivered when aligned on the perimeter, as he spent 77% of his career in the slot. The rookie’s 8.5 yards after the catch rank 14th among 169 qualifying wide receivers (92nd percentile) over the past two seasons. His elite college production and top-notch 32% dominator rating speak for themselves. And the best part is, he should produce from Day 1 after being drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the 1st round of the NFL Draft. There’s hardly any competition for targets outside of Robert Woods), who is coming off a torn ACL. And with a similar YAC-ability to A.J. Brown, Burks should be able to step on the field on day one and offer immediate fantasy football appeal as a top-30 fantasy option.
2.04 Isaiah Spiller (RB – LAC)
Isaiah Spiller might have fallen to the fourth round, but the landing spot could be a fantasy gold mine. Austin Ekeler is entering his age 27 season and can become an unrestricted free agent in 2024. If the team chose to move on from him next year, they could save nearly six million dollars against the cap by cutting him. Ekeler has dealt with an ankle sprain, concussion, quad strain, hamstring strain, and knee hyperextension costing him six games since 2020. The Chargers have scoring chances to go around as they were second in red-zone scoring attempts per game last season. Since Melvin Gordon‘s departure, the Bolts have been yearning for a running mate to team with Ekeler. Joshua Kelley and Larry Rountree weren’t up to the task, but Spiller could be. With the opportunity to earn a role in year one, Spiller could be a nice dynasty equity gain and trade chip midseason, even if you aren’t a believer in the talent.
3.04 Calvin Austin (WR – PIT)
The Pittsburgh Steelers paired their earlier selection of George Pickens with the Mighty Mouse-like Calvin Austin. Austin is the same receiver archetype as a Rondale Moore, but his route running prowess is more advanced. This offers Austin the potential to play the slot and man the boundary at times. If the Steelers don’t invest in pending free agent Diontae Johnson long-term, Austin could crack the starting lineup weekly in 2023.
4.04 Justyn Ross (WR – KC)
In the end, Justyn Ross‘s early collegiate production and breakout age (94th percentile) couldn’t outweigh the medical concerns. With a spinal surgery and stress fracture in his foot on the medical docket, Ross comes with risk. His UDFA destination to Kansas City will make him an attractive flier with a late pick in any draft but tread carefully. The Chiefs have little invested in Ross’s future. It’s not outside the realm of possibilities that he doesn’t even break camp with the team. There’s equity in selecting him based solely on the upside, but I wouldn’t go overboard in rookie drafts.
5.04 Kyle Philips (WR – TEN)
Philips has some sneaky Hunter Renfrow-like slot skill that most will overlook, but NFL teams like the Titans will love. Philips commanded a 30 percent target share in 2021 at UCLA and could potentially become a top underneath option for Ryan Tannehill in Tennessee.
