There are differing slate sizes for Wednesday’s main slate. DraftKings has a smaller six-game slate, starting at 7:05 pm ET with the Yankees at Orioles. However, FanDuel’s main slate has eight games, beginning at 6:40 pm ET with the Nationals at the Marlins.
Wednesday's Starting Pitcher Strategy
Tonight's top pitching options include a player who's only in FanDuel's player pool and another who's only in DraftKings' eligible players. Thankfully, the top two pitching options are available on both sites. In cash games, locking in aces is the correct move tonight. However, in GPPs, there's one bargain hurler on DraftKings who is enticing.

Cash Game Recommendations:
Gerrit Cole (NYY) at BAL
Cole is the top ace on a medium-sized slate with many front-line starters toeing the slab. He's been dialed in of late. According to FanGraphs, in his last four starts totaling 25.1 innings, he's spun a 1.42 ERA, 2.24 SIERA, 0.99 WHIP, 4.9 BB%, 33.3 K%, and 33.5 CSW%.
In addition, he should get lots of run support in a plus matchup for him and the offense. First, Baltimore's hitters have had underwhelming results against righties since 2019. Second, the offense is facing a below-average starter. As a result, Betting Pros lists the Yankees as -250 favorites, the largest on the slate. So, fire up Cole with confidence.
Lucas Giolito (CWS) at KC
Giolito is a repeat visitor from yesterday's piece. He didn't get the ball yesterday, but he still has a dreamy matchup with the Royals on tap. The Royals are 28th in wRC+ (80) against righties, and Salvador Perez is on the Injured List (IL), making Giolito's assignment even easier.
Giolito has been sharp this year. In five starts spanning 26.2 innings, he's had a 2.70 ERA, 2.59 SIERA, 1.13 WHIP, 35.2 K%, and 35.0 CSW%. He's listed as a medium-risk pitcher because this is his first start off the COVID IL. Thankfully, Giolito has said he's feeling 100%. Therefore, the medium risk assessment might be overstating things.
Finally, the White Sox are -165 favorites, and the game's total is a pitcher-friendly 7.5 runs. So, Giolito is a great SP2 in cash games on DraftKings, even though it means punting a couple of positions to squeeze in the forthcoming stud hitters.
GPP Recommendations:
Zack Wheeler (PHI) vs. SD
It took Wheeler a few starts to get up to speed. However, after three stellar starts, it's safe to say he's back. In the previous three starts, Wheeler has had a 1.42 ERA, 3.06 xFIP, 1.00 WHIP, 29.2 K%, and 29.5 CSWs.
Tonight, he and the Phillies are -154 favorites. In addition, the matchup is good. The Padres are 20th in wRC+ (93) against righties. Therefore, Wheeler is a high-upside pivot from Cole who frees up substantial cap space for an extra elite hitter or two.
Roansy Contreras (PIT) at CHC
Contreras has had a taste of big-league coffee, making three relief appearances this year, after starting one game last year. The youngster has had a 2.53 ERA, 2.67 SIERA, 1.03 WHIP, 9.3 BB%, 32.6 K%, and 33.1 CSW% in 10.2 innings.
Sadly, Contreras has walked 16.7% of the Triple-A hitters he's faced in 2022. Regardless, his highest walk rate in the minors prior to this year was 8.4%. So, his control problems are probably a small-sample blip on the radar.
After his last start, Contreras should be stretched out to a full workload. According to MiLB.com, he threw 83 pitches in his last turn. Finally, Contreras' matchup is challenging. However, it's accompanied by huge strikeout potential.
Top Lineup Stacks
Jordan Lyles has had a 4.38 ERA and 4.87 xERA in seven starts in 2022. Moreover, he's dealt with lots of traffic, evidenced by his 1.51 WHIP. The veteran righty is no match for the Yankees. So, they should pummel him tonight.
- Home (Rogers Centre)
- Value: Low
- Risk: Low
- Game Type: Both
- Game Total/Moneyline: 8.0 Runs/TOR -240
Remarkably, Marco Gonzales has had a 3.38 ERA in seven starts this year. However, all of his ERA estimators indicate he's due for massive regression. The pitch-to-contact lefty's approach should be greeted by thunderous contact from many hitters in Toronto's lineup. Let the regression process begin tonight.
- Giancarlo Stanton is amidst an outstanding season. He's clubbed 10 homers with a .250 ISO and 153 wRC+ in 145 plate appearances.
- Anthony Rizzo's .225 batting average doesn't generate excitement. Still, it's the year 2022, and there are better measures for success. For instance, he has had a .338 OBP, .295 ISO, and 152 wRC+ in 151 plate appearances.
- Bo Bichette's season hasn't gone according to the plan. However, he's rounding into form this month. Further, Bichette has been a thorn in the side of lefties in his young career.
- Matt Chapman is sitting below the Mendoza line. Regardless, he has the power to punish Gonzales's pitch-to-contact style. Chapman has had a .229 ISO against lefties in his career.
- Joey Gallo is capable of squandering a perfect matchup with the best of them. Nevertheless, he also has elite power that makes up for his swing-and-miss tendencies. Gallo has an opportunity to tap into his pop against a pitcher who's yielded a .497 SLG to lefties since 2021.
- Santiago Espinal has been a pleasant surprise at the dish for the Blue Jays this year, owning a .344 OBP and 126 wRC+. Further, his batted ball data has generated a .309 xBA and .460 xSLG.
Wednesday's Hitter Strategy
It's simple tonight. Gamers should jam as many hitters from the Yankees and Blue Jays into their lineups as possible.
