All the talk in the fantasy football world is currently centered around rookie drafts. It’s arguably the best part of playing dynasty fantasy football. However, it’s not the only thing fantasy players can do to scratch their fantasy itch.
Best ball drafts are happening right now, and there are plenty of outstanding values. Several veterans are getting drafted later than they should. But with everyone having a case of rookie fever, many wonder which rookies you should target in Best Ball drafts at their current ADP.
Here are four of my favorite rookies to target with an ADP outside the top 120.
The ADP is from Underdog Fantasy.
Dameon Pierce (RB – HOU): ADP 130.3 | RB42
During the pre-draft process, Dameon Pierce was a likely mid-third-round selection. However, his fantasy value shot up after the Texans spent an early fourth-round pick on him. Houston was an ideal landing spot for a rookie running back, given the current players on the roster. Veterans Marlon Mack and Rex Burkhead are Pierce’s competition for the starting role in Houston.
They shouldn’t keep Pierce off the field as a rookie. Mack has 37 touches over the past two years, while Burkhead had one game with over 47 rushing yards last season. Pierce could quickly earn the starting role and become a steal at his current price. Rarely can you find running backs with mid-RB2 upside outside the top 100 picks. However, Pierce has that level of upside.
Romeo Doubs (WR – GB): ADP 211.5 | WR95
After trading away Davante Adams, every mock draft had the Packers taking a wide receiver in the first round. Instead, the Packers waited till Day 2 to grab a wide receiver and traded up for Christian Watson. While Watson gets all the hype as the Packer wide receiver to draft, Romeo Doubs is a sneaky good later-round target.
Doubs had over 2,100 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns in his final 20 games at Nevada. He won’t turn into the next Adams, but Doubs could become the new No. 1 wide receiver in Green Bay this season. Doubs is a total wild card. But if he impresses during camp, his ADP will be at least 50-75 spots higher come August.
Keaontay Ingram (RB – ARI): ADP 211.3 | RB65
Arizona had to make some decisions this offseason at the running back position. They re-signed James Conner during free agency and let Chase Edmonds walk. Behind Conner on the depth chart are Eno Benjamin and Keaontay Ingram. While the Cardinals claim they love Benjamin, all 34 of his career rushing attempts came last year. He has been primarily a special teams player so far in his career.Switch to block editor
Despite his sixth-round selection, Ingram is a solid running back. During his time at Texas, Ingram was a potential Day 2 pick before transferring to USC. When Conner gets hurt, Ingram is the handcuff you want to own. During the games Conner is out, Ingram will have mid RB2 value.
Velus Jones Jr. (WR – CHI): ADP 214.5 | WR102
The Bears let Allen Robinson walk in free agency this offseason. While they added Byron Pringle, David Moore, and Equanimeous St. Brown, the Bears have arguably the worst wide receiver unit in the NFL outside of Darnell Mooney. There are over 200 targets from last year’s team up for grabs. Those targets will be spread out among the new additions. Don’t expect Mooney to take many of the available targets as he had 140 last season. Instead, expect Jones Jr. to pick up the majority of those available targets from last season. His speed and big-play ability make him a late-round target in Best ball drafts.
