Injury Roundup: Carlos Correa, Jonathan India, Andrew Vaughn (2022 Fantasy Baseball)

While new names continue to pill onto injury reports throughout the league, repeat offenders are also making their way back on. Not only are players going through physical ailments, but cases of illnesses are also spreading throughout the league. Below are all of the updates to be aware of going into next week.

Boston Red Sox

Rich Hill (SP – BOS) – Illness

On Friday, Hill tested positive for COVID-19 and was placed on the COVID IL for the Red Sox. This move has now opened up a spot in the rotation for Garrett Whitlock to solidify himself as a starter for Boston.

Chicago White Sox

Andrew Vaughn (1B, OF – CWS) – Hand

After being held out of the lineup since last Friday, Vaughn was placed on the IL with a bruised right hand. On Friday, he received a cortisone injection in the area near his wrist. He is eligible to come off the IL on May 12th, though it remains unclear whether he will be able to return then.

Cincinnati Reds

Jonathan India (2B – CIN) – Hamstring

India has found himself back onto the IL with the same hamstring injury that landed him on there earlier this season. The Reds are convinced that the injury has not gotten worse; India was just trying to play through the injury. If there aren’t any further setbacks, India will miss at least a week with the injury.

Joey Votto (1B – CIN) – Illness

Manager David Bell stated that Votto would miss more than a couple of days after landing on the COVID-19 IL. He has not been said to have tested positive, but this could be the case with him set to miss an extended period.

Detroit Tigers

Tyler Alexander (SP – DET) – Elbow

Alexander had an MRI on his injured elbow that did not reveal significant damage. The Tiger southpaw revealed that he had been pitching through the pain for about a month. He does not have a timeline to return. Matt Manning has already started working his way back and should be back in the rotation soon.

Kansas City Royals

Carlos Santana (1B – KC) – Ankle

Santana was placed on the IL with right ankle bursitis, retroactive to May 3rd. The Royals decided to make a move after looking to hold Santana out of the lineup for a second consecutive day. Royals prospect Nick Pratto could be called up for his debut should they feel he is ready.

Miami Marlins

Brian Anderson (3B, OF – MIA) – Undisclosed

Anderson was placed on the COVID-IL on Friday for the Marlins. It is not clear whether he has tested positive for the virus.

Jon Berti (2B, OF – MIA) – Undisclosed

Like his teammate, Berti was also placed on the IL without a clear designation, and the Marlins have not specified a reason either.

Milwaukee Brewers

Andrew McCutchen (OF – MIL) – Undisclosed

McCutchen landed on the COVID-IL on Saturday. It is unknown whether he has tested positive for the virus, but he is slated to miss the next few days.

Minnesota Twins

Luis Arraez (2B, 3B, OF – MIN) – Illness

Arraez tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday and was placed on the IL for the Twins. He is slated to return as soon as he clears protocols, though there is no timetable for his return.

Dylan Bundy (SP – MIN) – Illness

Bundy is another victim of the current outbreak in the Twins organization. He was also placed on the Il after testing positive for the virus, and his next outing is now in question.

Carlos Correa (SS – MIN) – Finger

After the fear of a long-term injury, it seems as if Correa was able to dodge a bullet as the Twins decided not to place him on the IL. The CT scan did not reveal a fracture, which is a great sign. For now, Correa is going to be held out of the lineup for a few days as he recovers. Royce Lewis made his much-anticipated debut for the Twins and should hold down the fort for the Twins until Correa is ready to return.

Miguel Sano (1B – MIN) – Knee

Sano is currently dealing with a torn meniscus in his left knee and will undergo surgery to repair the ligament. As of now, Sano is said to miss four-to-eight weeks as he recovers from the injury. Jose Miranda was called up to make his debut and take Sano’s spot on the roster.

Oakland Athletics

Cole Irvin (SP – OAK) – Shoulder

Cole Irvin landed on the IL as he is dealing with shoulder tendinitis in his throwing shoulder. As of now, he is slated only to miss the minimum and could return to the rotation when eligible.

Stephen Piscotty (OF – OAK) – Calf

Piscotty is dealing with a Grade-1 calf strain, which led to him being placed on the 10-day IL for the A’s. He is without a timetable to return to the lineup, and Ramon Laureano is set to return from his suspension and should take over playing time.

Philadelphia Phillies

Didi Gregorius (SS – PHI) – Knee

After missing a few games for the Phillies, Didi was placed on the 10-day IL with a left knee sprain. It is not clear whether he will be able to return to the lineup after the minimum stay. Bryson Stott was recalled and should see consistent playing time going forward.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Roberto Perez (C – PIT) – Hamstring

Perez suffered a hamstring strain in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader and was immediately placed on the IL after the game. It is not clear if he will be able to return after the minimum stay. The Pirates stated that the injury could be worse than they initially thought.

St. Louis Cardinals

Adam Wainwright (SP – STL) – Illness

Like many others across the league, Wainwright tested positive for COVID-19 and was placed on the IL. At first, he was placed without a designation, but the Cardinals later reported that he was dealing with the virus. He will have to clear protocols before getting back into form.
